I do not think that auto farming will be a problem because you still need to break the block. It wouldn't make farming that much easier. I highly doubt adding hoppers to main will ever be considered, hoppers have been suggested a few times and every single time been denied. They cause way too many problems outside of just autofarming, in fact, I'd say that would one of the easier problems to sort out as per the suggestion in the thread I linked, the bigger issue is all the bugs and dupes that can come from hoppers. Not to mention lag too.
