In Game Name: nicit6What part of EcoCityCraft is this suggestion for: Main City ServerShort title for your suggestion: A BETTER TOWN SOLUTIONWhat are you suggesting: Better town histories. How do you do this? EASY Whenever a town feature is applied for in a town, that town's original thread is edited to indicate the feature. This should be a new post since those create timestamps but an edit to the thread/GA's post indicating that the feature was added/changed/removed would also likely work If a post it should contain feature, location, link to appWhy is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?: a) There's no good way to check a town for town features right now without searching for everything related to the town. Now they would be easy to find. b) it 'futureproofs' towns, keeping all towns, in the sense that the history of a town is now super condensed if any kind of feature related change happens, like the portal/warp transition on the old server c) If we ever wanted to add town name changes in the future, these recorded histories should make everything clear enough to not make a mess. (this is however purely hypothetical and not suggested in this thread)Other information: should be minimal work to add, as I've counted there have been somewhere around 35 feature related applications. this shouldn't take more than an hour or two and I could do it myself if need be. Afterwards it would only take like 30 seconds per application.Plugin or custom addition: One suggestion per form: I Understand.
I don't like this because it's not automated, however let me do some brainstorming and see if I can automate something similar. /me thinks
I'd also like some input from the @STAFF-03 Game Admin + team, as they are the one's who do these applications. Would this confuse you application process? Are you willing to do this extra step? Etc. Please discuss.
Thanks for still always thinking of us N6! I thought I smelled wood burning and was going to call 911, but then saw where andrew is having to think
As N6 had stated, it wouldn't be too hard to incorporate this change. Another possible method of keeping track of town histories could be by making a separate forum section for just town histories. One thread per town, edited only by staff but viewable by others. All in all, this is very possible to do.
A separate forum sounds like a bit more work, however just responding to the town threads wouldn't be too bad in my opinion. Going to wait on some more staff opinions before making a decision.
I wouldn't mind the extra work, it wouldn't take much, so long as the original town app is linked in say the warp app or whatever feature they're applying for. Then if we need the information it's all organised in one place.
I think its a good idea, responding to the original application with new posts regarding the changes/additions to the town. Not a separate forum. Users are asked to link the original app in all applications concerning their town anyway, this has already got the system in place, we just need to add an additional step for when we handle applications. I for one take less than 3 minutes on a properly filed application, adding a history post shouldn't be too much work. Also thought; Should we also include an LWC history? Perhaps just editing in links to the LWC to an area/one post on the original application.
Yeah but LWCs are actually far harder than town applications! :v In all seriousness though, linking an application or LWC would probably be literally the easiest part of doing an application, especially when the applicant is literally required to link the original app. But I'd nonetheless add that if we really want to add LWCs to the applications, more importantly we ought to look at adding town contract history which is often far more useful than LWC history - Especially if we're going down the route of perhaps making town renaming feasible in the future.
I think it is so awesome that we have staff that is willing to go the extra mile to provide a great environment for us! Keep in mind that all of these great folks are volunteering their personal time to take care of us.
I have unfortunately decided against this suggestion for several reasons. We will not be asking staff to link certain threads to other threads. This is prone to human error, and future complaints related to a town thread missing history etc, as excuses for certain scenarios is gauranteed to arise. If town history ever happens, it will need to be fully brainstormed and done in an automated way within the code.
