It is not a rule to pay back a rule, you will not get punished. However, I'm guessing people will start to hate you if you don't pay it back...
ok this is what i thought this is all i have heard.... but rock dassie just changed his mind after i took a loan and i am going to try pay it back but how can i get banned the users of ecc know that u dont have to pay back loans the server rules dont say anything about this. and ecc users dont know that it is not legal noone has been informed
Loans taken without the intent to pay them back, as well as loans that are not paid back, are considered a scam and will be treated as such with sufficient evidence. We encourage lenders to make a post on the forum and have the loan recipient respond to it agreeing to the terms. If there is not enough evidence to prove that a lender has been scammed, we will not do anything.
I would argue that a loan by definition entails that the recipient honestly intend to pay it back. It's one thing if the recipient of the loan has no funds and is financially unable. It is another thing entirely if the recipient takes the loan with the explicit intent of not paying the money back. That is a scam, and it's illegal not only in the real world but also here on ECC. When you asked me that question I of course assumed you were talking about what a loan actually is: a contract between two people in which money is lent and payment is returned. I never assumed that you would take out a loan specifically to steal the money. That is clearly scamming. What you attempted to do was not take out a loan, but rob an honest player of their savings.
I am guessing that if you cannot pay the loan back (no money to pay it back), you will only be banned/fined if you were caught spending all of the money to be returned (if the date for return has hit or passed) on something by the return or after the return date. If..that makes sense. I do not think Andrew will instantly slam the ban hammer just because you do not pay back a loan based on terms set for it. He will probably investigate a bit; or, at least, I would assume he would. Another Staff member might, if they have the means to.
