Seeing as more and more users are questioning if they should even apply for staff I will be posting a topic on information that you should know about before even applying. I suggest reading every part, before deciding if you are right for the moderator position or not. Please remember do to the fact that I am not a moderator this is all held on interviews, or past experiences. However most of this info will be correct. How do I know if im right for the job: If you feel you have what it takes to be a moderator you for sure need to fully understand every rule on our server, aswell as understand staff requirements, if you cannot play the minimum amount of time that is asked of you, you shouldn't apply, seeing as you will be demoted due to inactivity, or not helping out enough. You also want to know each rule from the top of your head, when handling complaints, or even ingame problems you cannot just say, "Oh let me go on the wiki and check" Because that is basicly saying a moderator, or a rolemodel of the server doesnt even know the rules, why should a regular player need to know or memorize them? You should also learn the rules to act faster for ingame issues, and help out more users when they feel like they need help. It is suggested that you play a minimum of at least 3-4 hours per day, now this doesn't mean that if you are gone/missing for one day that you will be instantly demoted, however if you are missing continually you may serve a demotion due to inactivity. It is also suggested that you know how to reply to ban appeals or complaints, and that you fully understand how to handle as many different scenarios as possible. When moderating on a server you never know what may come up. This is another reason why you want to memorize as many of the rules as possible. You should also familiarize yourself with staff rules, these are the rules a staff member has to stick too, these include things as (You must aswell follow regular user rules) no using staff powers for the good of yourself, or abusing them in some sort of manner. As revanrose6 stated earlier: As rabidworm stated: ~pbrassat17
I consider myself to young to apply for staff, plus I obvoiusly dont have the maturity for it :/, I have also recently been banned, and i'm sure that will be held against me. This topic is really helpful though, im sure this will help a few users.
If you are looking at the staff positions please have your heart in the right place. Do not become a member of staff because you want power or because you want fame. That isn't the point of our job. Our job is to make other users' experience better and to make everything run smoothly. This is a job and a time commitment, however, from what I can tell it is a commitment that most of our staff members truly enjoy having because we came into it with the right reasons.
Wow, I honestly just meant this as a quick info/tut. thread for those who want to apply for staff but arent sure if they can. I will still update this as much as i can though
Well, I think this is a really good post. Most players applying for staff should see this before they apply. It's really great
hmm, well I dont think I have the position to just go up to andrew and say "hey, maybe this can be stickied on staff apps or on the wiki". If he see's this and thinks its worth stickying he can do so. I will however not be asking him to.
Lol I don't play enough I bet andrewkm would love to have a person who plays 9 hrs a day on ECC who also doesn't break any rules or be rude. <-- Not ME
Reading this, I need to make sure I am ready to apply, if I ever apply again. I think I have to many bad things about me.
Personally there is no "set tutorial" on becoming staff. There is multiple things to do to become staff, but it's on a player-to-player basis, or in this case there is staff-to-player basis. -1.
