Now to start, this is the only way I know how to fix it through NVIDIA settings. If your graphics are anything other than NVIDIA, I'm sorry. So, here is a quick tutorial for you guys to help fix your lag currently for 1.6.1 until Mojang fixes the client screw up.

The main reason why Minecraft is acting up this way is because in the launcher, it automatically sets your automated settings to your integrated graphics. To fix this, all you need to do is:

First, right click on your desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel":

Once your NVIDIA Control Panel is open, up on the top left, select "Manage 3D Settings" list under 3D Settings:

Next, select the "Global Settings" tab:

Now, scroll down to "Power Management Mode" and highlight it:

Then change the settings in Power Management Mode from "Adaptive" to "Prefer Maximum Performance":

Once you do that, just click "Apply" at the bottom right and you should be done!:

Now you're all set and ready to go! Once you re-log your Minecraft client everything should be running as smooth as they were before. These setting changes worked well for me and now I'm running 70 FPS as Far render on Fancy as compared to before where I was running 40 FPS on Tiny render distance on Fast Graphics.

If this tutorial did not help you, or if you could not find the exact locations to all that I have provided, then I am sorry, but there is not much more I can do. I'm that good with computers usually but this time I managed to pull through.

    Hope this helps!

This is the weirdest thing ever... I don't have the power management mode as an option. I triple checked that I was doing what you have instructed.

The option is usually not there for desktops.

Sorry, never used a mac for anything other than school purposes before. Nor will I probably ever use a Mac to be able to find that information out.

eddie you can click the apple in the upper left corner of your screen hit system preferences and tinker around in your display settings. The options are obvious and they explain in a summary below each one so just start looking around. Don't change your resolution since you can probably only got to 800X600 and it looks horrible.

Not sure if you said it, but I found that I needed to update my nvidia drivers to get it working. Still not great, but much better. Indo have an older GPU (7200) though.

    Thanks Unknownrider!

    What exactly does this do?

Besides get rid of lag of course, what does it do in technical terms?
