Hello there! You probably came to read this thread either because you are new, or because you do not know how to auction items, perhaps both. Since ECC uses no auction plugin and features an auction channel for auctioning, it is invaluable for every user to know how to host one. There are two basic stages when hosting an auction: Step 1: Go in the auction channel and write a detailed description of the item auctioned, and mention if it is an item that has been renamed, as per Section 3 Clause 2.1: Renaming items. Spoiler Clause 2.1 - Renaming items Users cannot rename items for the purpose of making them misleading (for example, taking a cookie and renaming it “Diamond Sword”, and then attempting to auction or trade it without specifying that the item is a cookie is against the rules) If you are auctioning or trading an item that has been renamed, you MUST specify what the item was before it was renamed. Spoiler All renamed items must follow the language and content rules for chat on the server. If it would not be appropriate in global, it is not an appropriate item name. Making or distributing items that are inappropriately named are both punishable to the same extent. If you find or receive an item that has been inappropriately named, please inform a staff member immediately, so that they may investigate and act appropriately. For example, if I were to auction an Iron Pickaxe and I wished to start bidding at 10 ECD, I would say "Auctioning an Iron Pickaxe, starting at 10$" If that pickaxe was renamed to Stone Breaker, I would say "Auctioning 'Stone Breaker' (renamed iron pickaxe) Starting at 10$" If I auctioned many of one Item, I'd also have to specify the quantity. For example: "Auctioning 12 diamonds starting at 100$" Step 2: Wait for users to bid on your item(s). This is done by them saying how much they wish to bid. For example, if Player_X is auctioning a baked potato for $10 and I wish to bid 10$, I have to go in the auction channel and say "$10". The auction host has the right to ignore my bid if he has heard no bids from me earlier in the auction, but in case he decides hear it, he says "10 heard". Other players now have some time to outbid me so they can purchase the item instead. The auction host will say "10$ for a baked potato going once", then after some time has passed "10$ for a baked potato going twice", and finally, "10$ for a baked potato going three times". As the host says those, other users have a chance to outbid me by bidding an amount higher than I did. Every time a new bid is heard the auction host must go through the "hearing" process again. When no one else outbids the highest bidder and the auction makes it to "going three times", the host will them say "sold" and sell the item to the highest bidder. Remember: You can not cancel an auction if you have heard a bid. You have the right to ignore the bid of a certain user if you haven't accepted any of his earlier bids. You shouldn't delay the auction too much. You are obliged to sell the item once you have heard a bid. Make sure to start the auction at a price that isn't too low nor too high, so you actually make some money out of it even if no bidding war occurs. If a user does not pay/refuses to buy the item after winning an auction or the auction host refuses to sell you the item when you win the auction, you can report them at: http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/forums/ban-appeals-complaints.14/ or http://www.ecocitycraft.com/appeal for short. Make sure to leave some time between you getting closer to selling the item with the "going once/twice/three times". Don't leave neither a too much nor a too short time period. You can auction anything ECC related. An example auction follows below, where user A is auctioning a town starting at 20k. User B bids 20k, and User A starts goin through the auction process mentioned above. User C then comes in and outbids user B, and the bidding war ends as user C runs out of money to bid/doesn't wish to bid higher for the item. User A:"Selling a 200x200 town starting at 20k" User B:"20k @User A" User A:"20k heard" User A:"20k going once for a 200x200 town" User A:"20k going twice for a 200x200 town" User C:"25k @Town" User A:"25k heard" User B:"30k" User A:"30k Heard" User A:"30k going once" User C:"32k" User A:"32k Heard" User B:"40k" User A:"40k heard" User C:"Out." (By out he means he does not wish to bid extra on the auction.) User A:"40k going once for a 200x200 town" User A:"40k going twice for a 200x200 town" User A:"40k going three times for a 200x200 town" User A:"Sold to User B" -------------------------------- They would then contact eachother and sell the town. If a user bids after the auction host said "Sold", the auction host can not hear the bid. If a user bids right before auction host said "Sold", but auction host accidentally said it, Auction host has to hear the bid. Bidding on an auction: If you wish to buy something sold on an auction, you must say your bid in /ch auc, the auction channel. It must be higher than the starting bid and higher than the highest bid. To win an auction, you must be the highest bidder and the auction host to say "Sold" after going through what is mentioned above. If you bid right before he says sold to sell it to someone else, he is obliged to hear your bid. Remember, You MUST HAVE the money you are bidding, or you may be in trouble if you win. Finally, some hints & Rules from our server rules about auctioning items: Spoiler Clause 5 - Auction Channel Only auctions and questions pertaining directly to an auction are permitted in this channel. By starting any auction, you are committed to sell that item. You may not cancel an auction after you have heard the first bid. Make sure that you start the auction at a reasonable price, as even if you are unhappy with the final bid, you must sell the item. You are allowed to ignore bids from certain players at your discretion, however, you must do so inclusively. Once you have heard a bid from a player, you may not ignore that player’s bids for any reason for the duration of that auction. False bidding is not allowed. If you are caught bidding something that you cannot pay, you will face punishment. Auctions must use the same currency for all bids. You are allowed to use netherstars or any other form of currency you choose, so long as it is EcoCityCraft related, as long as the auction remains in that currency for the duration of it. If not specified, it is to be assumed that all auctions are to be bid on with EcoDollars. Bids can only be accepted in the auction channel, and auctioneers may not accept bids from other channels or via Private Message. Do not extend your auction because you are not happy with the results. Long auctions should be taken to the forums. There is to be no “mystery auctions” - all items in auction must be specified exactly as they are, and must follow the rules for renamed items and any other trading rule regarding how to be specific about what your item is. On the same token, it is the responsibility of all bidders to be 100% sure of what they are bidding on before they bid on it. If you are not sure, ask the auctioneer to specify what exactly is being auctioned, or any other questions you may have pertaining to what is up for bid. Thank you for your time, I hope this tutorial helps you in the future! -Gernen.
This is an amazing tutorial! I wish there was one like this when i was a builder because I had no idea how to auction stuff. Love it! Make more!
This would bennifewt the new users as as so many users ask "how to auction" it would be more helpul if you make a videwo showing anauctuall auction (Ps: i am typing fast now bc I havew to go so sorry for wrong spellings)
Pretty simple stuff, What i find frustrating is the amount of cancelled auctions, and until we start complaining about them, it will continue. +!
This would be amazing for a select few people I know that seem to raise a lot of drama when it comes to auctions. I think this guide is perfect, but one thing that would greatly help is mod interventions when people start making up rules in the middle of an auction. Too many times I myself have to call people out for some wild thing they mention that isn't stated in the rules. I'm only a resident so they generally don't listen anyways, but it would help with more mod support on the auction channel. It's the one written in bright blue letters that the whole server can see jk jk! Amazing thread! Thank you for posting it
One thing I think could stand to be added is to put the value of the item you're auctioning in the initial statement. For instance, if I was selling an enchanted pick, i might say, "Auctioning one enchanted pick- eff V, Unb 3, ST 1- (worth 20k) starting at 1k!" This, if done right, would definitely make people more interested in bidding on your item if they think they're getting a deal out of it. Otter than that, you've got a pretty good thing going here, great job!
Some people are bound to lie a out these type of things or give wrong numbers outof wrong sources, i think its best to leave the people be and bid whatever they want in that way because there might be an overflow of people reporting wrong information or lots of people telling it to staff ingame that might annoy staff more since they will need to refer the to the forums and tell them how to find the complaints section and whatnot, but who knows, it might just work out.
With all due respect to @AdmiralD, there are some players who should be required to recite this tutorial out loud every day when they log on.
