Today when I logged on the forums, I noticed that my ratings were significantly lower than the day before. I counted the ratings, and they added up, but I couldn't shake the feeling I had a higher rating than that. I soon realized that the "funny" rating option was removed from the forums. After asking why this happened, I was told "people were using it in a mean way". This is such a ridiculously flimsy reason to remove a simple rating on the forums it's almost insane. Honestly, do you really believe that removing the funny option on the forums rating system will somehow magically stop people from being "mean" or that we can't be trusted with the option of rating posts funny? I know, it's a small matter, but I hate to see the server cave to people that can't handle the stress of seeing their post rated "funny" when they didn't intend it to be so. I mean, if someone truly wants to be mean spirited, they can just do so in a post, the funny option doesn't magically make it a possibility. If the staff truly, really feels that the chronic outbreak of "funny" ratings is a true problem, then just make a rule stating that you can't rate ban appeals/complaints funny. It's that simple really. If people can't handle the occasional internet disagreement, they really shouldn't even own a computer. I'm not asking for it to be re-added, I just want to point out we don't need to bend to the whimsy of random people who feel they've been mistreated by a little smiley face at the bottom of their post.
Not sure if you saw the thread about it all, but it is here: http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/something-that-bothers-me.62680/ Essentially, people were starting to use the Funny rating as a way of bullying, which can fall under harassment and trolling rules. Although it may seem silly to remove it, it can cause some people a fair amount of hurt, especially if they get a lot of it on things that are not actually "funny." Though I would have liked to keep Funny available for actual funny posts, I do not think it was possible to disable Funny in specific sections - so it was removed. (I did also mention that there could be a rule, but Andrew deemed removing it to be better.)
