Depending on my mood: The Thing That Should Not Be Damage, Inc. 'Master of Puppets' is in my top 10 albums of all time as far as influence. It was the first 'metal' album I ever heard. I wasn't into metal and a friend asked me why I wasn't. I didn't really have an answer. He then told me I had to listen to Master of Puppets album as he thought I would relate to it. He gave me a copy (cassette tape) and that night I listened to it and he was 100% right. That conversation, that I remember vividly, was a wateshed moment in my life. Post Script: Anything from Metallica pre 'Load' is great. Just my opinion.
One is Metallica right? I don't hardly ever listen to metal music but I remember tearing it up on that song on Guitar Hero 3. Good stuff
As someone who listens to music that is quite heavier I don't really regard Metallica as metal myself. But either way they have some very unique songs. I like Master of Puppets, but all of their music is pretty sweet, those solos though xD
Did I mention that when I was a Senior (This was in days before the internet), I used The Thing That Should Not Be/Through The Never as the base for a poem in English. Two days later I was in the guidance counselor's office with my parents with a recommendation to go to Family Therapy. I had already failed English once, and was taking both Junior and Senior English in my senior year. I was failing both Englishes and I didn't want to admit I had stolen the poem ideas and agreed to go to therapy. As a motivation to go to therapy I was allowed to take Summer School for both Englishes (which I aced). Metallica helped me get a diploma. They will always have a place in my heart, no matter how twisted, short-sighted, and looney they become.
Oh, we're telling stories about our favorite Metallica song? *stokes fire* It was back while I was in the US Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg. A bar I frequented, called The Flaming Mug, played music by request, but also had a stage for the many groups that came through (George Thoroughgood, Poison, Motrley Crue, Jackyl, etc.) Every night that a band was not playing, someone would go to the DJ and request For Whom The Bell Tolls. Every metalhead would head for the "dance floor" and start head banging... in sync... usually about 20 of us... er, them. After a few months, it became the second to Last Call song for the night. When the song ended, everyone got their last drink. And so, For Whom The Bell Tolls will always be my favorite At a much later time, I remember watching them during an outdoor concert play Ride the Lightening while a thunderstorm rolled in. Could see the lightening in the distance getting closer, but they finished the song! Unfortunately, concert was cut a little short due to the storm. Best ending song evar!
