Farming depends on having a big enough farm such that by the time you finish farming it, the first parts that you farmed are fully grown again. Some donations and tools can have a big impact on your profits too like fly/speed, e-repairs, mcmmobonusplus, pumpkin axe, fort3 tool, etc.

 

For you being a resident, I would suggest you buy a "Pumpkin Axe", or Efficiency 5, Unbreaking 3 diamond axe. You can make around 10-15k an hour. It can cost from 10-15k though. I would suggest you get one of those, then save up for a "Melon Sword" or Efficiency 5 Unbreaking 3, Silk Touch 1 Diamond Sword.

I earned enough money for mayor and more with just a dinky wheat farm. It is a place to start.
