Minecraft Name:splotchyjester2 Suggestion:Enable pistons Reason:Can do many things useful with pistons Any Other Information:Maybe have it like heel signs how you must pay ___ to have an admin place it.
I am personally not sure why pistons are not enabled. However, I'm pretty sure this is for a good reason and I believe they should not be enabled.
I have been told that pistons can cause a significant strain on server performance, so much so that there could be a danger of crashing the server just because of pistons. I get the feeling that people could engage in various rule-breaking shenanigans through the use of pistons, so that may be part of the reason as well. In the past, I liked making doors that open via the use of a few pistons, but I have learned to live without them.
Pistons cause large server lag and stress. Lag + 300 players on = clusterf**k The pistons have duplication bugs which can compromise and destroy the economy system. Also, people can use them for automatic farms which would lower the use for melon swords that people have worked so hard to get.
Currently, I would rather not make a full post on why these are not allowed, but I will provide what I normally say in-game when I am asked this question. The first reason would be lag. There could be many ways to limit it, but each method, comes with more cons than pros, and while we are slowly countering lag, as today we were able to re-enable mobs in the mining world, pistons will cause more much more lag than mobs would, and we cannot butcher pistons if lag gets out of hand. Secondly, pistons provide an extremely easy way for people to make fully auto farms, which are not allowed on the server. Please note, any crop that you need to replant is semi-auto, not fully-auto. By keeping pistons off, we remove the temptation for most users to even attempt to break the rules, and knowing how many people farm on this server, some would try, and it would put an extreme amount of stress on the staff team to be able to efficiently enforce fully auto-farms that would make use of pistons. Thirdly, would be duping bugs. I do not know if these are still around in Minecraft, but knowing how Mojang likes to "improve" its coding of Minecraft, I am most certain there are a few duping bugs that are around, and duped items is not something that helps the server in anyway. I hope this explanation helps you understand why we have pistons disabled on this server, while these may not be all the reason, or the best reasons, these are what I tell users in-game when I am asked.
To keep it short; lag, bugs, and exploits. Although cool and fun, the negative out ways the positive.
The reason is 400 users +pistons= Lag like hell there is currently no dupe bugs and yes easy auto farms, thats why there dissabled
Lag, especially in large quantities. Even 50 pistons pumping means overall lag. I tried it on a server and the lag was unbearable. Dupe glitches: Everywhere. Perhaps you've seen them on Youtube. Hoppers have like 4 dupe glitches now too...

If pistons can make full auto farms why is it that cactus farms are not allowed in ecc. After all if you cant use pistons than you canm make an automatic farm.
Cactus farms can be made fully automatic without the use of pistons. By placing a block right beside and one block up from a cactus you can make a fully automatic cactus farm. These cause lag for the server and it is a way to earn money without having to do any actions as you can just sit afk collecting the fallen cactus blocks.
