Hey ladies and gents, Mard here, and I'm curious as to how our ECC tutorial is doing. Specifically, i'm wondering if it's providing necessary information that new users can understand and find easily. A ton of work went into building that area so it's about time to ask the question, Is it paying off? What I want in this thread: BUILDER RESPONSES! LONG TERM MEMBER INTERPRETATIONS! Questions I want answered: What about the tutorial do you enjoy? What about the tutorial would you like to see clarified or altered? Also, feel free to add any information you feel is relevant to this discussion. As always, keep it clean and don't bash anyone for their building skills, block combos, ect.... Give some positive feedback as well as some constructive criticism.
I have seen that not many new players ever head to the tutorial. I think new players should spawn (if possible) in the tutorial. Then, at the end they would learn /spawn to get to regular spawn.
I went through it once without reading the info--more looking at set-up and "first impression." It's nice, but it is...huge. Most of the individual areas look nice, but overall everything looks messy, overwhelming, and daunting. xP There is so much to take in, I think new users may walk away after a minute. It may be easier if the beginning of the area had color-coded signs (with names to each tutorial area, or general area), and each tutorial area was color-coded. Or, a combination of color-coding and letter-/number-coding. If this is already something being done, ignore me. xP
As of now our tutorial is set up in a way that users are able to gather information that they need at their own pace. I don't think we should have new users spawn here as it then feels like an obligation to go through the tutorial. It's better that we let users decide when to learn what. Giving them that freedom is a great way to encourage users to go out there and learn through experience as well as having the tutorial as backup if they can't figure something out. I agree Jamie, though it is difficult to fit in the type of details we need on minecraft signs. This is a wonderful idea Moo. I'm afraid that it would require an entirely new set up to accomplish this. I don't think anyone is supposed to take in all of the info at once. It's more of a learn at your own leisure type of situation.
How exactly did you use it? Did you take as much information in at once or use it when you encountered something you didn't know how to do?
