Hello ECC. You may have recently seen someone named Xylanub online. That was actually me, after a name change. I was conducting a test on how ECC treats it's builders. While I can say that some people treated me fairly, many people decided to troll me, saying things like "I only do 100 tril loans", and etc. Other people were very mean, saying things like "totes legit" when I tried buying a tool. I am not going to mention any names, but you know who you are. Furthermore, I pm'ed multitudes of people, and of these people, only around 50% responded. People who usually sell me features said "sorry, only sell to mayor", and multiple people refused loans on the basis that I was builder. Guys, you may think that I am criticizing you, but I am simply trying to make you aware of the fact that when builders complain, it's sometimes for a reasons. They simply can't work they're way up the economy if no one trusts them, or at least attempts to trust them. I'm not saying "do no contract deals and just 100% trust every builder", but I'm rather saying "give them a chance". Now, I am going to mention two names. @SnDxBruh and @matt8865 were both very nice to me, and I'm sure many others would have been, had I have had the time to continue this experiment. All staff were wonderful.
Not that it makes a difference, I acted the way I did because I had suspicions you were who you were. Why joke in chat about changing your name to something similar and then make an account with that name? -Also I worked my way up to where I am with hardly chatting in Global, not begging in Trade, or asking for Loans, or playing SG. It's possible to do. I've seen other builders do it.
It's because a builder asking for loans right after joining is simply suspicious. Also risky. Who's to say that builder won't just quit the next day? A new player has absolutely no credibility and has to work to be trusted. That's all.
This is partially a reason why I don't enjoy playing on this server as much as I did a year ago. People overall are rude to outsiders, and there is a minimal connection between everyone.
This was a great experiment. It really seperates the men from the boys. I try my best to give builders the best start I can- a free small house, 1 thousand ecodollars to begin their career and any guidance they seek I accept their pm's. I think if your friends troll builders you may need to reevaluate the term "friendly" as builders can easily be persuaded by other's actions whether to stay or to go and it's builders more than anyone that this server needs. If we don't pass the torch on to the new players, when we quit the ECC fire will go out. I hire and home builders for the future of the server and out of kindness. I don't see what benefit there is to trolling then whatsoever.
Yes @SnDxBruh i was testing if you would scam without contract. Guys, let's not turn this into a debate. I'm just saying what happaned. That's all. Make what you want to of this.
Regardless of what the outcomes were or could've been I think it was a really great experiment for you to do. It's important to see how we as a community respond to people who need help and I think you doing this really promoted that importance. Great job
I've started over on an alt like 10 times so far. And every time I end up with the same issues and pros. Let's start with the issues: As a builder it's difficult to get people's attention (staff included), specifically when asking questions. I've often had to ask questions 2-3 times before I even got an answer. (I understand that chat can be busy sometimes, but it's a tad bit ridiculous) Some people are pricks. (but bad apples exist everywhere) The only decent way to make money as a builder is mining, yet everyone suggests farming. Pros: It's still just as easy, maybe even easier, to get resident as it was 4 years ago, and that hasn't changed in the slightest over the course of the past 4 years either. Making money is easy. When you do get people's attention then generally the responses are fairly helpful. (You know.. unless I'm being a prick and complain about how people don't notice my questions) I've not had a single problem with people insulting me, being rude to me or anything else. I do however notice that some builders can't even English and are far from respectful themselves, I've seen those builders get rude responses. (Including that one time I was being a rude builder!) Now, I agree that there are some flaws that are very detrimental to builders. Specifically the first bullet point under issues. When a builder asks a question it either takes a VERY long time to get an answer, or you won't get an answer at all. It's rather easy for a builder to get lost in the vastness of global chat. BUT, generally, asking questions in spawn local gets you an answer. A solution to this problem would be something like a chat channel dedicated to questions. (chat Questions, or chat Help?) This way builders can ask their questions and not get their questions lost in global chat. I'll go write a suggestion on this.. I think staff needs to be a bit more diligent in trying to answer the questions builders may have, though.
Mod, change title to "Survey Results". Bit too pessimistic atm. @xX3PICREBELXx @Mission001 @BackToThePast
This is a something that was highlighted to staff a few days ago and it is something which we are actively trying to improve at the moment. Hopefully people start to notice a difference
Okay, let's look at this from another point of view. I try to help builders as much as possible. Fairly often I will pick a builder and give them 1k to get started. Usually they will ask for more, ask for a plot, ask for building materials, tools, etc. I added a builder to a town, gave him a plot and immediately he started selling plots to his friends. Another time I gave a builder a plot and he built houses all over the town and was selling them - totally against the rules. I asked why he was doing this and he said the 1K I gave him wasn't enough and he wanted more. Or the times I give out 1K and it immediately goes into lotto. But on the other hand, some of these builders that I have helped have become great friends of mine. I guess I look back to my builder days and remember how hard it was to get started, I remember Miner1975 selling me a $900 plot on a payment plan so I would have a place to call home. It's hard work, takes an enormous amount of time but pays off in the long run. If I could describe ECC in one word it would be patience! Patience is the key to being successful on ECC. I believe we should all continue to help builders but I also don't believe this should be a "hand out" situation. Help them get started and then let them make it on their own. We should all treat builders the way we expect to be treated......with respect and kindness.
I was the one who said "I only give 100 tril loans" this is because I don't loan to builders without donations/backbone. I have never seen that name before and there would be no way in this world I would give him any type of loan. It is my choice on who to loan to isn't it? I didn't come off mean however, we joked around and exchanged laughs. If builders want to be respected they should act more professional and not act like little kids. It's a shame that the immature builders who came on spammed servers/curse words and caused the Builder title to be looked down upon as if they're lower class.
