This may be due to the fact that the dripleaf is classed as "plant" and not "crop" or "food" So I'd argue this isn't a bug at all.
Grass, tall grass, cacti, dead plants in the desert, and such aren't crop or food either so there may be a misread on that point.
This isn't really a bug - mcmmo currently doesn't have "dripleaf_stem" listed as a block that gives herbalism exp. After examining this I have decided that to add it so you earn herbalism exp from breaking drip leaf plants. This should be done after our next maintenance session.
