Denied [Don't allow plagiarism of forum threads]

Plagiarism- the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
Define plagiarism: the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit to that person
I did not pass it as my own and I credited you at the bottom therefor not plagiarism CASE DISMISSED.

 

This sort of thing only matters for Staff apps where it is already not allowed. I don't see the point of this suggestion honestly speaking, furthermore your post was cited at the bottom.

I posted the original thread and probably made about 15 different edits. I was going to credit you. Just forgot. That's not important you are creditated now and were not even 5 minutes after it was posted. My b BB. Still Not plagiarism.

 

What does that even mean? You can barely read any of it also citations always go at the bottom.

 

It's a game; why does this matter? It's not like you can put a copyright on a thread...

Since the rules against plagiarism is clear in every segment of the forum rules as well as the mainstream Internet premise.

 

While I agree that it is very distasteful to literally copy and paste someone's application, I think it should be left up to the person who is looking at player made services requiring applications to deem someone's post invalid. Personally, if someone were to copy and paste another player's application to have me consider them in a service, I wouldn't accept their application because clearly they're not putting time and effort into wanting what I'm offering.

Frankly who cares. Why add more dumb rules just so people won't make a similar thread. Bacca has all the right to make a similar thread. Lets say I made a thread about selling a protection 4 set and then someone else does a similar one, I'm not going to get mad just because they made the similar thread...that's stupid. Like you said, his thread isn't as good looking as yours so why get mad at him?

I don't see this as a problem. Even if it were added to the rules, it would be very hard to enforce. I do agree with what @Monkeyz505 said- if someone copies an ad, I would think they didn't put any effort in and would most likely not accept it. The only place where copying threads on the forums would matter would be in staff apps.

 

Q: who does this hurt?

There have been copyright suggestions in the past.

I really oppose the idea - sure, it's not nice to copy someone's thread. But where is the border between "illegal copying and minor modifications" and "sufficient modifications to classify it as a derivative work"? And if it does classify as a derivative work and someone copies it, does the first or second person own the rights to the copyright now?

IRL copyright/plagiarism cases keep lawyers/courts/etc busy for quite a while in some cases. I see absolutely no reason to bring a vague copyright concept to ECC just to punish people who base a thread on someone else's work, it simply causes additional problems for everyone involved without offering any real benefits.
