After I read Ike's complaint thread (and have thought about it in the past), it made it clear that anyone can be an idiot and manipulate things in your town. Example would be Ike having to put a door up just to keep people out that aren't following the town rules, which are impossible to enforce as a mayor. Maybe not ENTIRELY impossible to force, yes... But he had already warned them, and they didn't even have building rights. There was nothing he could do. So my "complaint" is that anyone can change how you want things done in your town, because us Mayors can't really do much about those people who won't listen. Which really sucks... We shouldn't have to do things we don't want just in an attempt to deal with idiots who only want to cause trouble. :/ I don't know how much could really be done to help with this, other than mods listening more to the complaints, rather than saying "I can't do anything about it." I do understand it's up to us Mayors to enforce our rules, but we can only do so much without help.
Andrew, If reading this some ability for mayors to keep people out needs to be put to place. An ability to keep people out of your town (Some way to teleport them to spawn or keep them out). Hell I am just tired of the way towns are run and the way trolls are able to do whatever the HELL! THEY WANT! We if I am not speaking for most Mayors need compensation need a way to actually do something. Yes there are Mayors who will abuse their power if they get something like TP but they can be dealt with by Moderators/Admins, but WAIT! during all the commotion no moderators or admins were on AT ALL! If anything is going to happen In my opinion and many others it is your obligation as a Moderator/Admin to be as active as possible, but what I have seen lately is little to nobody on at all (I understand some staff actually are busy with their lives). If an ability for Mayors isn't applicable at least a boost in staff needs to occur because there is not enough and there NEEDS! to be.
^ The times I get on, there is usually few or no mods/staff on. It's Summer and people are away, maybe IRL issues, but if there was a notice that they wouldn't be on for a long amount of time, it would help. The staff sizes is good, but they aren't on enough. Not saying "drop real life, lose yourself in a game," but there needs to be more variety of when they are on, or maybe even another moderator or two who have been active all Summer and will continue to be active. :/
Mayors can't do much about these things to be honest...after the thread Ike made, I do realize how hard it is to do it without mod help from time to time, but I don't think much can be done without giving mayors power that can be abused too easy. And I would have done something like a kick if I was on at the time of Ike's thing, but I wasn't, and no mods were on at all, I'm starting to think that maybe how active we are is becoming a problem......but I don't know, I don't want to make the staff quit their lives >_> so I don't know what we can do without adding staff and making us have like 50 staff...
It isn't just being unable to do things.. I'm really upset that idiots can be annoyances, harass, steal, whatever, and make you do something to your town that you shouldn't have to do, or that you don't WANT to do, /just/ to keep out one or two idiotic people.... I've seen tons and tons of stuff happen in chat that shoulda got an /alert, /kick, and once or twice a /jail, but no one was ever on. People are kind of afraid to make complaints sometimes, too, because nothing gets done half of the time (not talking about the bickering stuff like with Rez and Ant.) And people can't even make friendly warnings/reminders, because everyone jumps on them. "YOU AREN'T A MOD I DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOU" :/ ..that leads to people always going JAIL JAIL JAIL and BAN BAN BAN. There shouldn't be people doing that when they see tiny mistakes, or big ones. It's kinda obvious, staff doesn't need reminders.
Well, becoming a moderator affects your activity, I once had to take a 3 day break because of being mod tiring me out. And yeah, stuff happens sometimes when we aren't on, but that's why we have complaints, so that we can do something about it, except for maybe kick, because kicking someone hours after they do something seems pointless
Breaks are understandable when you are the only one doing everything mostly alone. :/ Which is kinda your case.. You're more active in-game than most of the staff. And like I said, some people are afraid of making complaints. :b They will get bashed on, hated, their threaqds get locked because people are stupid and cause it to get locked, etc.
I understand your point on PvP towns, but what about issues like griefing or what not within towns. I remember you speaking about mayors being able to review PvP logs, is there a way for Grief logs to also be viewed?
Even so, some people want towns available to everyone because most people won't mess around... Then those one or two idiots come along and make you have to block everyone out, which isn't fair. :/ And yeah, the whole PVP thing makes sense. It'd still be nice if mods did help out a little more, or at least didn't seem like everything is up to us, and just leaves all town problems mayor can't handle up to us.
Local chat spam, yeah. Some people like to follow and harass people, too, which we can't prevent other than locking them and other friendly people out. That is the only problem I see, and does happen sometimes... You could lock yourself in your home in a town, but you shouldn't have to hide from someone. xD It's hard to monitor/report those things, though...
Turnstiles can reduce traffic, have a visitor door that they must pay for to visit the city, have a door that regulars can open.
