I wouldnt think that the price would be a problem, andrew could change the price to be pretty low if they make money so easily.
The main problem is that with cactus farmas, you have a ton of entities on the server all the time becayse of there automatic nature, which can cause a ton of lag.
100% auto farming. You could build a farm where you stand in one spot AFK and cactus grow, break, and are pushed to you with water. Too much of an exploit.
Probably, but right now we are running a ton of plugins and to add yet another just so people can farm 1 item isn't going to happen really. RagMan
also ppl can build huge 1 chunk cati farms and then even if one cati was worth 0.001$ they could still make maybe 500k an hr by stitin afk so..... that is one reason y they arnt here. if andrew made then not sellibal to the server then he could probably let them exsist, his chose though and i have to reason to aurgue agents it
Cacti farms cause MASSIVE lag and are to easy money. If they weren't worth anything the only reason people would farm the cacti for player traps or for illegal mob traps.
If you look at the sticky on the suggestion thread (wich you should read before making one), andrewkm clearly states that there is no point to suggest adding pistons/cactus becouse that will simply not happen and the suggestion will be ignored. These are not possible for the reasons stated above: lag; easy money. About that plugin against auto-breaking... well I can't say much on that as I didnt knew it existed but I do know that andrewkm doesnt plan to add more plugins as we are already running alot of them, specially being such an expendable one. Hope it helped
This thread kind of sums things up. I am not going to add anything more to the topic because I only have mean/hurtful/not-nice things to say. http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18104
I mean expandable, as in it would only serve the purpose of preventing auto-farms, but not, as kuke stated, lag.
even with out the plug-in there banning for autocilckers so why not just ban people for afking cactus farming thou keeping unadd would keep the price at 5 and still to me worth afking at my small little farm i found
Will everyone commenting on this just accept that fact that cactus is disabled for one of two or more illogical, arbitrary reasons. First they are disabled for no reason, or just for the sake of being banned. Or Secondly that they are banned to protect the interests of a few. When teleporting to spawn, I've seen underground cactus farms while the chunk loads. I know they exist and they are likely being exploited for great financial gain. How does cactus farming differ from farming of other items, server side? Wheat for example has eight growth cycles whereas cactus have two. This would lead me to believe that wheat farms cause more lag or server load than cactus, hands down. I have personally visited farms on this server (wheat, melon, pumpkin) that are SOO massive that they cause my client to completely lock up to the point that I can't move or do anything. These farms require me to restart Minecraft and immediately teleport away upon reconnection to ECC. The main point I want people to walk away from this with is; lag is very localized and only affects those inside of the chunk or very near to it. If someone is degrading the server experience for other players to the point that they cannot enjoy the game, those players should be banned and their farms deleted. As stated in the thread that I started some time ago, this issue could be resolved by setting the price of cactus to $0.00. An example of this is buckets. Buckets are worth $0.00 whereas the iron to make them is valued at ~$20 and you don't find people hoarding hundreds of buckets. My $0.02
...wat. The only cactus farm on the server that I know exists is one that contains like 5 cactus under spawn. If there are others you know about, refer to this. http://www.ecocitycraft.com/wiki/index. ... Structures More importantly, the farms cannot benefit anyone in any way seeing as you cannot sell the cactus to the server and nobody buys it because it does absolutely nothing. Cactus has two growth cycles, but that doesn't make it lag any more or less than anything else, besides the block update, which is nothing compared to all the players on the server breaking blocks. The real issue is that it's possible to auto farm them, effectively doubling the block updates... But what's worse? This auto farming method drops the cactus onto the ground. When cactus was enabled, people made automatic farms that produced a good 10 cactus per second easily. After only an hour of running, there was thousands upon thousands of entitys on the ground lagging the server hardcore and the people in the chunk. I can go into anyones 600x600 pumpkin farm on my horrible computer just fine right now, but when I walked into a 100x100 automatic cactus farm, my game would freeze up instantly. On top of that, like I said before, it lags the server as well, big time. All those drops on the ground can cause the server tons of stress and it would be almost unplayable for everyone on the server after only an hour of the server running. Lastly, the server does not support making AFK money. This is why mushroom farms/mob traps are also disallowed. Sitting there at an AFK farm to make money was highly unfair. This cannot be fixed with adding a simple plugin, as the plugin needs updated all the time, which is more work for Andrew, more server bugs to fix, more lag, and it just complicates things a lot. It's a lot easier and less time consuming to just disable it. Setting the price to $0.00 doesn't really solve much, anyone who is smart will just smelt it in a furnace, or just mass produce it anyway for some other odd reason if the dye was $0.00 as well. It'd be too risky to give people the power even if doing it is pointless. There will be people who do it just to do it, and finding them can be a pain on a 12000x12000 map.
