Hmm, you're right, it's because it's in the same bar as the menu-items, when the bar gets too small the part on the right gets pushed out.
Not sure if it deserves a new report, but I'm not using mobile (On Firefox 28.0) and all the profile/inbox/alert buttons are also hidden for me. Spoiler
The same has happened witg me when using my samsung galaxy tablet but it seems to work on internet explorer
