jamie cant you just implement a way to remove id from your own tool? this is starting to cause more harm then good
Absolutely not. This is something that we contemplated at the beginning but agreed not to implement due to the exploitability of it.
I kill you. The /own name is wiped. I take the tool and /own it. I then un-own the tool and remove the ID. Poof, the tool can't be found.
unless you die in pvp (which would not make this an exploit), there are ways you can still be found though ie, placing gravel, lava, fire, or digging a giant pit. I think having the potential to remove an id would do far more good than bad.
So it would be the same situation as if someone broke an eff7? Return, payment plan, or ban? Idk, I just don't see why you should prevent something that could help everyone advance in game and get better tools for the miniscule sliver of people that could potenially abuse it. we can abuse water, we don't ban placement of it. we can abuse lava, we don't ban placement of it. we can abuse redstone and cause massive lag, we don't ban placement of it. we don't allow people to kill others in non-pvp, but we allow them to suffocate in gravel. it is possible to make a full-auto farm, we still allow the growth of sugarcane People can be jerks in chat, we still allow access to /ch g. There are so many things that can be exploitable that it is just ridiculous anymore to use that as an argument for not implementing something. This, yes, can, be exploited, but so can many other things we already have. This can help people, and people are asking for it to be implemented.
Then file a suggestion, but to be honest, I feel like prioritizing being able to recover people's million ecodollar tools over the ability to anvil combo is the right way to go. (I personally don't see why you would /own tools that you would possibly combo later anyway).
what?, that doesn't matter the tool is not mine anymore when i die, i lost it in pvp i should not be able to get it back owning a tool at the moment is only usefull if someone takes your tool and stores it at a chest, thats it. if you die and someone happens to pick up your tool they should not be able to get it back right? the own is remove, it no longer belongs to you
I wasn't talking about PvP. I mean that players have illegally killed players in non-pvp areas and taken the tools (seriously I've probably had to recover 4 or 5 mswords this way).
4 or 5 compared to how many that could potentially combo tools? and of those 4-5 you can't say that none of them would ever get their tool back after we find the violator that killed them illegally.
No, but I am saying that if you want this to change you're better off filing a suggestion than debating with me on a bug report.
