The last few days has seen many changes to the sever, and thought LWC was the bigger issue - boy I was wrong and wrong by a long stretch. Bring back Wild Cage Spawning. I often help new players get themselves into a situation where they can better themselves. From building farms to expanding and creating better designs than they currently use. This requires a lot of vegetable seeds, and because I have access to a few Skeleton Spawners I use Bonemeal. I provide this sever to wild players free of charge for the most part. Except for placing the water. I provide the dirt, and often times use my own lighting that I buy from the sever store because McMMO isn't activated. I have built countless farms for wild players, but with the removal of cage spawnings, I am now unable to provide this service. Without the ability to get free bones, I will refuse to provide any more wild players the ability to grow and prosper in this game. I have around five wild homes - only one of them was ever broken into. I know how to live in the wild, and I know how to protect wild players. We want new and fresh blood and that comes at a price of needing and wanting mentors for the ECC sever. Please bring back at least Mob Spawning Cages to the wild locations!
I'm guessing wild mob spawning was disabled to help reduce lag. I could be wrong, but that seems the most logical reason.. I want wild mob spawning turned back on, for various reasons. Main reasons being the resources obtained via mobs. Paying for mob spawning in towns is usually a bad idea. Towns are either mass farms (I don't like that, but still), or are pretty, well-built living spaces to /avoid/ danger. Having to threaten and endanger every user in your town just doesn't seem right... No one will do it for a business, as it just isn't a logical solution. :/
My town is still in the process of being developed but for now I am enjoying the change. My friend and I both coughed up the money to get mob spawning flagged on in our towns awhile back and was honestly a waste until now. I NEVER came across a hostile mob in either of our towns. Also the number of passive mobs that spawned in a 200x400 section (towns are side by side), less then 10. Over the course of weeks. So ya, I imagine this will get changed back, but for now its nice to actually feel like I am on a survival server while I work on my town. If it was up to me I would leave it as is, I destroy all spawners I find and people offering to sell their locations gets old.
I find not having bonemeal to help those that need it to stay in the game to be boring and old. But further. This does need to be brought back. EXT Commands is screwed up now because of it. No spawning at all for EXT Commands unless the mayor rarely activated mobs. I don't mind if wild doesn't spawn mobs, but mob cages need to be able to do so. Either that or find a way for us to move them to our towns to allow them to spawn in their.
As far as I know there is no way of changing ONLY mobspawners. It would have to be the WHOLE wild or only towns with the flag. Whole wild was slowing down the server at 250 players and only towns with flag also increases the amount of mobs that spawn in smaller areas (no longer mobs spread around the globe) this is useful if you want to have mobspawners in your town (Darkrooms). The performance increase and the mobspawning changed outweighs the wildmobspawners by far. I HIGHLY doubt andrew will change it back. ~kukelekuuk00
Considering you could wander the wild day and night for hours before and never seen a hostile mob and only the occasional passive mob on the server, I am thinking not much was lost, however for towns with mob spawning turned on, quite a bit was actually gained. Maybe when more towns cough up the money to have it I won't see mobs in my town except on rare occasion like before.
You two definitely have good points. I like the idea of survival towns but they would need to be four connected 200x200 towns in order to accurately recreate the feeling of being out in the wild surviving. Have passive mobs been changed at all?
XP is such a large part of Minecraft. Diminishing the amount of XP a player can get limits the amount of enchanted tools moving throughout the server and also greatly kills off a main source of income for many beginer players who like to sell the XP for a price. It is getting harder and harder for builders to move in the ranks, don't take away another way of money making for these disadvantaged players! Why not simply cut the amount of players on the server down to 250 to decrease lag. I belive that sacrificing all of mob spawning for lag decrease is not a fair exchange when you are talking about such a bif part of the game.
Well I'm sure glad I have 2 blaze spawners in the nether but I agree that wold spawing needs to be turned back on, like you can't even call it the wild anymore :/
i dont see how mayors will make money off it they have to find the spawner first that means tearing a town apart to find one then what just to make 300 off some one wanting to use it
Breeding only works where mob-spawning is enabled, so breeding should not work in the wild. The Aether is the best place to put your breeding farm as it is grief-free and will always allow passive mob spawning/breeding.
