There are a LOT of prices like this, not just bread and wheat. I highly doubt it will change either. I personally like things like this, it makes you think twice about crafting lots of a single item. Makes more sense to me, but that's just my opinion. I'd go into detail about why an economy would be like this, but I don't feel like making a huge post.
+1 D0rc AND Bread is found in dungeon chests as well. It's more naturally occurring than wheat? - Plus, bread can heal. So that alone should make it an item for healing, not selling.
I agree with gumland on this one. In general, I think crafted items should be priced equal to, or higher than, their raw materials. It takes time and space to develop a sizable farm: wheat grows slower than reeds, and it only yields one wheat per block. Then, the wheat must be replanted, unlike melon, pumpkin, or reed farms. After all of that, it takes three wheat to craft a single bread item. True, bread has inherent value as a healing item. But wouldn't this make it a more desirable item, and therefore a more expensive item? From what I've seen, bread sells at a pretty high price on the online market. I guess the true value of bread, in this case, is the demand from players. Even so, I still believe that the server's buying price for bread should be equal to, or greater than, the sum of its parts.
As I understand it, the prices of items are (basically)dependent on the time involved in acquiring the item. That is, it doesn't matter how useful something is, only how long it takes to get it. Because wheat must be farmed, and bread shows up naturally in chests, wheat takes slightly longer to acquire than bread. I'd actually make a slightly different proposition. As each unit of cropland consumes one bonemeal, I'd argue that the price of a single wheat should be equal to the current price of a unit of wheat plus a unit of bonemeal. Such that, the time difference between artificially matured wheat and naturally matured wheat was equal to the cost to artificially mature the wheat. Currently, wheat is $.3 per unit and bonemeal is $.3 per unit. If I use bonemeal on melons or pumpkins, I still end up ahead; however, if I use bonemeal on wheat, I break even. It would make more sense to double the /sell price of wheat and leave bread where it is.
Actually i think wheat and bread shoud be non sellabe for a player only economy and its a very good way to profit from
As wheat and bread are not able to be automatically farmed and are not overpowered/highly unbalanced, I see no need to take them out of /sell. I'm doubting it would be good for the economy, as food isn't highly in demand; many people never actually eat, such as myself. I know others, too. We simply use farming for money. And, if only half of the users buy food, it could be difficult at times to sell the farmed goods we get.
Yes, +1 Moo. Me as well, i don't eat food, and if i did i would just vote for me Porkchops, or just go and get some from the Servers shop, and they should not be brought out of /sell in anyway, but that's just my thinking of this topic.
