Best way to farm with an efficiency 7 pick is to put it in your back pocket and use your eff 5 st 1 unb 3 sword named LordCwispy's Melon Sword on a long row of melons or a fort 3 axe on a long row of nether wart with fly 4.5 speed.
StoneIronZ i also found the best way to mine was go to around level 9-12 and just go ham... break every block u can and mine every ore u find then fort 3/sell the ores and sell the xp
It amuses me when people say mswords are better than eff 7 picks, because it's flat out not true. A melon sword will make you roughly 17k per hour. If you go to y: 10/11 and mine straight for one hour, you will literally mine 40k worth of ore/minerals. Add another 15 minutes in order to fortune the ores and bam! You've made 30k/hour! That's a 13k difference... Of course the eff 7's initial cost is higher than a melon sword, as well as the amount of attention you have to spend on mining is about 5x that of a melonsword, so there is obviously disadvantages. Either way, I can do 2 hours of work melon farming and still make more from 1 hour of mining, so it's a pretty sweet deal.
It actually takes more like 40 minutes to fortune that much worth of materials, if not longer. Also, those costs are not to the server, they're to other players.
I didn't argue that a melon sword is better than a eff 7 pick because that wasn't the question. The question was what is the best way to FARM with an eff 7 pick. And personally, I think you can get good ores faster by going to y=6 and run through the lava because you are pyro+.
^.^ I never said you did, I just said that in general, as I always argue that Eff. 7 picks are better, and a multitude of people contradict me in-game. I personally mine at Y:11 because I don't have pyro+, but diamonds also have the highest spawn rate at levels 10-12. Either way, once I get Pyro+ I'll test that out, but I personally find Y:11 is still the best.
40 minutes? Jeez, sure as heck didn't take me that long. I rented a Eff. 7 Pickaxe for 1 hour yesterday. I mined consistently for 1 hour, and got around 4-5 rows of ore, and that was me being inexperienced as well, if I did it again I think I could increase my profit even more (It might cause some more time fortuning, but overall, it'd be more $$$/hour). After I returned the pick, I once again started my timer and tested how long it took me to get everything sellable. I smelted all of my gold/iron in 3 cooking pots, which was virtually instantaneous. I then sold all of that to the server, as I find that sitting in a shop, holding right click for 20 minutes does more harm than good. After that, I placed all the ores that I could fortune in a hollowed out quarry. I used fly, so that may be the reason it only took 15 minutes for me, but even without fly, I definately don't think it'd be additional 25 minutes. Once I mined all the ores, I sold to the server. Diamonds, Redstone, Lapis, and Coal, all to the server. The only thing I did not sell to the server was exp and emeralds, those I sold to usernameofdeath. So, I'm not sure why my results seem to be so weird to everyone else xD, but that's how it happened, and I'm sticking by it.
The best way that I've found to fortune ores is to line them up in a 1x2 row (same shape as the ideal mining tunnel), then superbreaker right down the row. It also helps if you have walls on the sides to keep you going straight. I also have a floor of hallf slabs so that I can look straight ahead to break ores instead of looking downward. This helps you to hit the ores that are out in front of you earlier. Finally, I use /speed 2 or 3, although you can go higher. Oops, I have more. Mcmmobonusplus x3 and 1000 mining really speed this up too (more superbreaker). I can place a 192x2x1 in about 90 seconds (speed 2), then superbreaker nearly the entire thing (34 seconds). That's 384 ores in 2 minutes and some change.
So that explains why I keep seeing coal ore everywhere in massive tunnels mined out. I swear you kids and _tans are so messy, I mean come on clean up your tunnels god.
