The Basics First, you need to know how to auction. To auction your items, type /ch auction to set your focus on the auction channel, now, whatever you say will be said in the auction channel. Or, you can type /auc or /auction at the beginning of a message to put that message in the auction channel. But be aware, this doesn't set it as the default channel as /ch auction would, so you will need to type /auc or /auction at the beginning of each message if you do it this way. Attracting people to your auction One thing that is important is to make sure people will want to buy your item(s), there are ways to attract more people like 1: Announce your auction in the trade channel! This will make more people that left the auction channel know you're auctioning item(s), and they might join in. 2: DON'T start above server price. People often don't even bid even once in an auction for item(s) that start above server price, try going for $1 starting price in an auction for a diamond block. Sometimes, you will even make more money this way! (More on making more money in the next section) 3: Auction items in high demand. Pay attention to the chat to see what people want at that time, if everybody wants pumpkins at one point, auction pumpkins! Some things are always in high demand like diamonds, people always want diamonds. (This also helps get you more money, look at next section for that) 4: Auction when more people are on! If you auction in the middle of the night, not as many players are on, and so less will bid. Auction when more players are on. And do remember, some of us are in different time zones, so you will have to find out the best time to auction for your own time. However, I can say most of us are in America and Canada, so the middle of the day for people in these areas would be best. Making more money for each individual item Making more money for each item is important, here are some things to help. 1: Remember who has lots of money and the items they want If you see a couple players with a lot of money that both want diamonds, wait until they are both on to auction, they might go much higher then the normal player, even higher if there is another rich one on so that he keeps outbidding the other. 2: Auction items in high demand Doing this, more people will want it, so they will bid more, and get the price up. And as I said before, Diamonds are always in high demand. 3: Don't start above server price, again, people don't want to bid in these auctions, you might not even get a single person bidding, and, $1 auctions for diamond blocks DO make lots of money, it gets more people wanting to bid, so more money is made. 4: Make the item seem like it's worth more then it actually is The way to do this is to take diamonds for example, make them a diamond block, it seems like it's worth more in block form, so it makes people pay more. And for things that don't go into block form, just auction them in higher amounts, but never too high, auctioning 5 stacks of diamonds won't work, people won't have the money to afford it. Common mistakes Some common mistakes are made, you can make much less money doing these. 1: Starting above, or close to, server price This is a common mistake, if you do this, you make much less because people don't want to bid for many reasons, I won't list them all here, but just don't do it 2: Auctioning tools People often don't want to buy a tool, with diamonds you could make a shovel, or an axe, but if you turn it into an axe, then sell it, people that want a shovel won't buy it. This is a Work in Progress, things may change.
as a begging player that has played a total of 4 days of minecraft multiplayer (only server i played is this one really) what I want to know is what happens after the auction. How/where do people meet up. How is the actual transaction done? If I buy something and use /pay <user> <amount> how do i know he will give me the item afterwards? and if he doesnt what do i do?
a helpful player told me the only way to make a secure transaction ingame is with trade signs is that true? the danger of getting scammed if you just use /pay and let the other person drop you the item is just too big. SO that means for the transaction to happen one of the parties must be at least the rank of Resident. Correct me if I'm wrong people?
I haven't updated this thread in such a long time. Some things may be outdated. Hopefully these still work for people. lol. (Haven't even read the thread, no idea what is wrong with it if anything. )
TL; DR: Don't Start Too High In Auction, Tools = No one Buys (Unless Enchanted), Make Auctions during At least 150+ Players online, Exaggerate Quality of Item. Done. Heh, Read it, and Looks Fine, We had Auction implemented in Juiy last year? I forgot when it was first placed in :]
since im 4k $ away from resident... can you place trade signs on top of the spawn tower? or is it /pay and Q to throw items?
