IGN: RyanBlocks2 Suggestion: Use of a hacked client or hacking should recieve a ban of AT LEAST 3 months for first offence and upwards of 6 for a second offence. Also, by hacking and hacked client I mean every single possible cheat that exists. Reason: Everyone gets away with it and they know they do, its ridiculous, half the ban appeals section is filled with scummy cheaters who made some money went and played another game and came back rich after a small ban. If you haven't already seen this by all means take a look http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/forums/ban-appeals-complaints.14/ http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/forums/ban-appeal-archive.119/ Now some might say this is a long ban, i don't think it is at all and I would have made it a longer time except people would complain. Also, its not like you can accidentally hack, these people know what they are doing and they know it is wrong and it is time they actually got a decent ban instead of getting away with cheating.
A longer ban? Definitely. 3 months, though? A little too much for a first offense thing. Personally, I would say a month. One month is a fairly long time period, and doesn't completely drive away the user. But I do agree that there needs to be a longer ban time for those who hack. It's an offense that has to be dealt with personally with Phys/Dewey, so why not give them a serious ban time?
First Offence - 1 Month Second Offence - Perma Ban If your idiotic enough to be banned once for a hacked client and then appeal and get unbanned, if you do it again, there shouldnt be a place for you here on ECC, It isnt hard not to cheat, lie and hack your way through the game, hundreds of others dont.
+(insert what you think is the stereotipical high number here) All the cheats give you unfair advantages (mcmmo/money usually) i think that the long ban (3 months for first offence and direct perma for second i think would be great) has to be combined to the whyping of balance/sg stats/mcmmo depending on what the cheat gave you advantages in.
It is something that I have been working on recently. Our tempban bans have increased quite significantly compared to previous bans. Additionally, if you have read any of the appeals recently you will have noticed that I have started to wipe balances/mcmmo stats/taking ores that have been mined using X-Ray etc. I appreciate that we have had a problem with hackers/auto-ers/etc, but the reason why there have been so many appeals recently is because pretty much all of the time that I have been in-game these past 2 weeks has been spent catching people. My opinion is that the situation hasn't gotten worse, people are just being caught for doing it, rather than not being caught. All the appeals that I have done recently have involved 'new' punishments (bal wipes/mcmmo stat wipes etc), and if after a period of trying this it isn't making any difference then we will look into new options. Although for now, I want to actually give this new policy time to settle in and see if it has a positive impact. At the moment, my view is that if we can remove all benefits from hacking, then it isn't worth the risk being caught when coupled with a 1-2 week tempban (for 1st and 2nd offenders). I think that's the major 'new' difference - removing what is gained from hacking. If the players can come back after this amount of time, in no better position than they were before hacking but time off the server, and then come back and contribute to the community in a positive way, then this is better than banning for 3 months and them never returning again.
I see your point in removing the benefits of cheating but how can you? You can't make diamonds worth 1$ so that if you have x-ray you don't get much economical benefitsfor example, nor you can make mcmmo levels impossible to get or making 20$ maximum reward for sg. X-ray will always show what there is under the stone and auto-clicker will always make afk money. Because until the hacker gets banned he still has all benefits from hacking, i think ecc should try to think a method of clearing the benefits of hacking before the hacker is caught. I also agree with you when you say that it's better for someone to return in a week or so and then contribuiting to the community but normally hackers who appeal are experienced players, players with a good ecc career, builders normally don't appeal for hacking. Those players would return to ecc after a 3 moths ban. I think a long ban would help reduce hacking since 1 month is a big amount of time (3 months even more) and a player reasonably wouldn't want to be banned for such amount of time and therefore don't hack.
No offence But all we see as members of the community is people hacking, being banned and then on there appeal being told not to do it again with a very e-stern response, We dont see any of the bal wiping or whatnot being issued out in the topic. Maybe its not our buisness to know, but if people saw and knew it was happening, they would feel much easier. Also, surely we should have people constantly looking for these people? I know you said you have been working at finding these people the last couple of weeks non stop, maybe we need some more higher ups to be sharing the workload and actually teaming up against these guys, so an understaffing issue as well as a too lenient policy? If the temp was a month or more, people might think twice of even trying it, let alone getting caught? I still think you should get 1 chance, if you do it again, your out, no matter how much youve donated or helped the community. To do something like hack and xray not only once, but twice? They really dont deserve to be here anymore.
Dewsy says when he does it, look through some of the recent appeals he's done. As he's said this is new, no more than a couple weeks old.
Remove the benefits as in reversing any gains that someone has made through wiping balances/confiscating items etc. To do anything else would adversely affect the rule-abiding community. @Mission001 - Exactly what Nicit said, take a look through the recent appeals that I have done. I want to give this time to see if it works first before changing it again.
I like the new policy that Dewsy has going. Let's give it some time doing that and ride it out and see how it turns out first before we make any major policy changes
I agree with both of these. Give the new policy a month, then do what Mission said if it seems to be decent by that point of time.
