Ok, so I just got Aether access. So I build myself a little chicken pen and put about 100 chickens in it. Well everything was going great. They were laying eggs and I was collecting them. I'm sure the server was reset a few times during this process. Well, I got up this morning and all the chickens are now gone. I don't know what happened to them, but they just up and vanished. Is this something put in place to keep lag down or did someone come in and kill them all? Should I try again and see if they vanish again? Has anyone had this problem with mobs in the aether?
Sometimes, they despawn if no one is near them, if they aren't on grass, or many other factors, it also could have been an anti-lag move that killed them, or even someone coming in and killing them, there are many factors possible.
Maybe the staff does /butcher or /killall to help with lag? I don't even know if they have access to that command...
Ok, so I refilled the pen with like 30 chickens this time. They survived the first reset. However after the most resent reset they all vanished again. I was trying to stay near them the entire time but I wasn't always within 16 blocks so I couldn't always hear them. The pen is made of glass and fence, though the floor is stone bricks, with water flowing to one side for easy egg collection on the level below. Is there any way I can get verification from an admin about the despawning thing? Also, has anyone else had success setting up a simi automatic egg farm or is that the part that is messing me up? Has anyone ever had problems with mobs in aether? I just want to try and set up a big animal farm, and chickens are the easiest thing to start with.
Well, for one thing, the stone makes it so they will de-spawn for sure, they have to be on grass to make sure they don't despawn, and the only way to know if a /butcher happened is to ask the game admins directly.
Ok, so when you told me about the grass I changed that and they stayed. This worked and I was able to keep chickens in a pen. However, just about an hour ago now, I logged in like normal and was greeted by my clucking chickens, mooing cows, and baaaing sheep. I got the eggs that were waiting to be collected and then sold them. I was lagging a bit so I decided to log out and back in. When I logged back in, all my animals were gone. I tried to get any of the admins to let me know if they had done anything in order to help with the lag produced by my egg farm, however none of them ever replyed even once. As I am aware that mobs do randomly despawn, I would normally accept this as the answer, but I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE!!! I saw them and logged out to help with the lag and when I came back just a few seconds later, they were ALL GONE!!! Is there something coded into aether that periodically resets all mobs? That would be very nice to know, considering I was going to build an animal ranch. To get the two cows, I had to first find them and then build a really long dirt bridges to lead them to my ranch. The sheep I found in the same area as one of the cows, but the other I payed 10k for someone to deliver it to spawn. I had that sheep for all of about 2 hours before SOMETHING came in and wiped it from existence. What is the point of even having mobs enabled in the aether if all of them get reset every so often? (I would say I lost like 200-300 chickens, 12 cows, and 2 black sheep and 2 white sheep)
There is nothing coded in that kills mobs, and due to 1.3 lag, mobs will be killed, what is the point of having them, you can still get profit even if they despawn occasionally.
I know, but all of them? All at the same time? Everywhere close to me? Also, I did find a newly spawned sheep on the spawn island right after this, but there wasn't any way to get it because it was trapped on a ledge in a protected area.
Ok, so I'm going to look on the bright side . I'll take this time to redesign the entire thing so I can house up to 9001 chickens and still have little to no lag and still have a single collection point. Also, I guess I could always keep two of each type of animal in a few separate holding pens really far away so if there is lag in any of the chunks that people are in, I'll always have 2 of each animal left to repopulate. I'm going to need more protections.... and maybe water.... and fly would help.... a lot.... I know! I can play the lottery to get the funds for the perks! lol Maybe hireing some help would make things easier too.
So peaceful mobs are disabled in aether also? I remember being able to spawn animals for 200 each.. that's a while ago
