-1 No need to change it. Five minutes isn't that long of a wait, just alternate between ads. Chat already gets spammy when multiple people post an ad around the same time, it's hard for new players to be seen sometimes. This would make it worse.

 

-1 the original rule was exactly what you were suggesting, but was changed when the character limit was doubled. You can easily condense it down to one trade message.

-1 I manage to fit 2 different advertisements inside my ads, and could add more if needed. I can see the chaos that chat would be during peak time, no thanks.

You can already technically bypass trade chat rules if advertising two things using an alt.

For example, it would be totally legal for me to advertise station 5 using my main account, and then a few mins later use my alt (Jenny) to advertise my farm.

This always was the case of being legal (as long as the two things being advertised are different), and I assume that this remains legal as I see certain staff members use this "legal loophole" of posting multiple ads. (As rules historically only stated that only one thing may be advertised every 5 mins)

This seems like it would run afoul of alt-accounting rules pretty quickly.

Your statement of what the rules "historically" have said is entirely incorrect though. When the rules were 2 ads per 5 minutes they didn't have to be the same thing. It was then moved to 1 ad, but the rules specified one message, not one subject.

My apologies, my use of historically was somewhat inappropriate. Perhaps "within the last year" would have been a better choice.

As for what current internal rules may be, they were "readjusted" some time last summer, due to fixing a loophole where one person would advertise one thing, and then 30 seconds later, a different person would advertise again with the same advert. It was deemed that this was pretty spammy, and went against the spirit of the rules regarding trade chat. As such, the extension to including one subject was added to prevent this. (In fact, one of the OMG competitions where users had to screenshot an advert for omg fell afoul of this rule)

As such, I could theoretically advertise, say, selling magic tools, and ask / pay another user to advertise my shop 30 seconds later. The natural progression in this is of course using an alt. I somewhat agree that this is a grey area, yet the fact a current staff member is using this "loophole" clearly indicates that this is legal.

Of course, if this does fall afoul of alt rules, I'd expect the SA+ team to treat it as such and issue punishment that is consistent with other alt related punishments...

Its obvious that your talking about me. I have my alt advertise my shop once an hour. I do not advertise both on my main and alt within 5 minutes. I follow the rule between accounts. If I advertise on my alt or main, I wait 5 minutes on both accounts. Now of course I have sometimes advertised within the 5 minutes, but its a mistake and rarely occurs. I am a human, just like you non-staff players.
