Thanks for adding me on your "friendly" list, but I am personally against the concept of "free" money. It takes away a player's will to work hard and earn their money on this server. I have never given away free money in my ECC career and never intend to do so. Instead of giving a player free money, it would be much more useful to the player if you taught them how to earn money. You should help new players by giving them free teleports, letting them use your farm, selling them items for a lower price, etc. As long as they are earning their money, not begging for it. And please don't quit, we need you. There's a lot more to EcoCityCraft than the lotto, and I'm sure you'll earn your money back in no time.

 

Just pretend the whole thing didn't happen. You didn't win the lotto and you didn't lose it. Imagine that there was a 48 hour rollback.

 

I think people just get annoyed when people beg for money or for work so they automatically spam no. It takes work to earn money but there are plenty of opportunities. Seeds are easy to find in the wild which gives you the most valuable crop for farming and there are always people offering jobs in chat and on the forums. For those who don't know how to do, the wiki and forum are very helpful and there are plenty of people that offer advice when asked. Just because someone has lots of money doesn't mean they should give it to those just getting started. An important part of this server is starting from nothing and working your way to success. Those with lots of money also likely have big plans that require lots of money. They may want to start a town or another town. They may be working for tycoon. While it is good for the wealthy to help those just getting started, it really shouldn't be expected. It isn't that they are selfish, they may just not feel like giving away their money because it is theirs to do with what they want and they earned it themselves.

I now have over 100k and got all of that from farming and voting. I never got anything from anyone and i didn't want to. I plan to start a town soon and having built it all on my own will be very rewarding. I think that is a common feeling for those that have done well on the server. Most towns provide opportunities for their members and i think that is one of the best way for people to help those just getting started. There are a lot of towns and most of them really want more people. This creates a lot of opportunities for new players to get a great start on the server.

When you buy lottery tickets you have to expect to lose that money and shouldn't expect it back. It is a game of chance and there are a lot more losers than winners so it should be avoided by those who need everything they have.

 

I only give money to old friends that can return the favor one day, or people who helped me in the past. Other than that I think everyone should make their own money, until a point of utter insanity (broke or lost millions in lottery)

 

I won 1.2 million in a single lottery before because I was extremely lucky. If I gave money to every single person who asked for it from me after that, I'd have lost it all within the hour. I also would have taught them something I shouldn't have... Beg people for money and you get it.

When someone asks me for money directly, like after a lottery, I'm not going to give it to them. Not only is it rude to do so and can annoy the person who has the money, but if I did give it to someone, I'd have to give some to every other person who asks too, otherwise they'd get upset that I didn't give them any when I did to someone else. I can't pay everyone.

If you've ever asked someone who just won a lottery for money and they didn't give it to you, it's not a selfish act really. You aren't the only person they just denied money from likely. In 1 million dollar or more lotteries, people will get asked by 10+ people and can hardly see chat with the spam they get through PM's and the users in global freaking out, nor do they want to spend their money on random people they don't know asking for it.

In my opinion, you would be doing someone a favor to not give them money. What DFat said is only half of it as well - The other half of it is that you teach the person a false way of making money that angers people. You teach them that they will get money if they ask for it every time someone wins a lottery...
Of course though, this isn't the case if you gave it to them for another reason... But if you asked them for money, you should never expect them to give you some, nor would they be selfish to not give it to you.


I've also noticed that it's a common misconception that giving people money when they beg for it is a "good" thing. Maybe in real life, sure, but that's a different story - here on this server, people can have no items, no money, no food... etc, and do just fine. It's not like they can't go and make money themselves or anything, or that the economy is in hard times and finding a job is difficult, no... They are just greedy/lazy/a nicer term I cannot think of and beg people for money hoping they'll get some. Generally, if they hadn't done that in the first place, nobody would have gotten upset, but by asking, they get upset for not getting money, and the owner of said money gets angered. Maybe both people will end up happy if the owner of said money gives them some and doesn't mind, but this only gives the other guy the idea to do it more and cause even more angry people.

If you really want to be a nice guy and not a selfish guy, a cheaper and better way of doing it is to just be nice to people. You don't have to give them money to be nice to them if they happen to ask. Just don't be a jerk about it when you say no. Like, instead of saying "No, I need this money go away" you could say "Sorry, I won't be giving away free money." maybe with a smiley at the end to imply you aren't in a bad mood and don't mean any harm or anything. (I personally like adding ""'s at the end of sentences like that. lol.) Trust me, it's entirely possible to be nice to people with little to no cost on your balance and items, you just need to think about it. This is why I have never, ever gotten a complaint filed against me on this server without having to give away mass amounts of items to everyone. I've been here for about a year and a half - if someone disliked me, they would have said something by now.

I also apologize if in some way I offended anyone in this post, I'm just being honest. Mostly about calling them "greedy/lazy". Generally, those would be the correct terms to use for people like that and I do not mean for them to be offensive. I just cannot find a nicer way to say it.

Also, those who just want something easy aren't likely to put a lot of time into what they do on the server. The best person to get help from is yourself. Those who don't expect a handout and maybe come back from losing everything are the ones that are most likely to keep the server going and maybe become mods and admins.

It isn't an "abuse of power" to keep the money you have earned to work towards your own goals. We are all free to do what we want with what we have. It doesn't do you any good to beg for money. If you think someone should be responsible for helping you because they have lots of money then you have already failed.

Like D0rc i do not want to offend anyone but there are plenty of ways (like voting and doing jobs for people) to get the money to at least join a town where there will be lots of opportunities to make more money without having to beg or having someone treat you different than any other customer.

Edit: If you are offended by anything that has been said in is forum it really is your problem not that of those who you were offended by.

 

I agree. Handouts not only harm yourself, they encourage bad habits. They will waste the money because it's not their's and they didn't have to work for it!

The reason people don't give money away is because they have worked to get that money and just because you don't give money away doesn't mean your not nice or selfish.

What has happend to ECC? When I joined about 6 months ago it was a thriving community where people actually worked and put in effort to reach their goals. Lately Im constantly seeing people complain about not having any money. Take this thread for example...

The user has been on the server for just over 2 months and is still a resident. He wins a lotto and has more than enough to become a mayor and buy a 200x200 plot with extra money on his way to buying a second town and becomming a president. So what does he do?? He gives away free money and than throws the rest away in another lotto. Now he is blaming "some presidents" for not helping others.

Welcome to Ecc, the best HARDCORE economy there is! There are many of us who worked very hard to get where we are today. I personally know several who did it the way it was meant to be by Farming, owning land, by selling/trading, and by comming up with unique ideas to earn money. Sure a few have managed to use the lottery to esablish wealth, but it is rare and most were already established by other means to begin with.

I get that with the recent changes it is a bit harder to make money, but it is still happening. You can still make roughly 20k per hour farming and one you buy land you can make a ton more very quickly. I myself farmed regularly and became mayor after only 3 weeks. I then continued to farm and sell plots for a few weeks and became a president in about 1 month. After building a 200x200 farm and selling perms, along with selling plots and xp regularly, I was able to buy 2 more towns within 3 months. I know that there are many that achieved even more in less time and it was done without winning a single lotto or recieving loans or free money from others.

Please ubderstand that this was not directed at coolguy alone. He just happened to make a thread. There are many others out there that can learn from this information. It would be nice to see more presidents in the future.

 

So all presidents are mean because they don't give their hard earned money to people who don't work?

How do you think the presidents got the moolah to begin with? They WORKED for it, something you obviously don't understand. You win the lotto and lose it, it's hardcore and part of life. You are rich one day and poor as dirt the next. go farm some pumpkins and try again. It's not like you can't make money easily. Go farm ,go mine, go exp farming,the possibilities are endless, and your saying people are mean for not making people work for their money? You will NEVER accomplish anything by doing nothing. We are hardcore, and you need to understand that. A person doesn't get tycoon by begging. By not giving them money, you are teaching them the valuable lesson of working.
