Minecraft Name: Crow_feather Suggestion: I am suggesting that something be added to allow for different languages to be used in in-game chat. Perhaps a plugin of some sort that would allow players of different nationalities to see chat in their language. Reason: This would mean that players who normally would have to leave because of their language would be able to stay and be a part of our community. Now, I'm no expert, I would have no idea how this would even be installed. I did however look for a plugin via Google and found something that looks promising. Obviously it wouldn't be 100% accurate, but it would be better than nothing in my opinion. Link to this plugin/Is this a custom addition?: This plugin has been tested updates up to 1.12 I believe, so I don't know if it will work with us being in 1.12.2 although I think it will. Looks awesome though. https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/advanced-multi-language.21338/
There is also this: https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/translator-plus EDIT: Not sure if this could be server wide like the other one though.
Great suggestion; there would need to be a significant amount of international players for it to be worth installing.
Think about it though, every player who comes on, who doesn't speak English, is a player lost for us. If our server offered a way for those people to play, perhaps there would be more.
I know there are a few people that don't speak English as their main language that are still playing, there's local chat/pm's etc to speak with friends in whatever language you speak. As of right now, I don't think we have a large enough player base that would utilize this to make it worthwhile implementing. From what I've seen about 1% of players that log on don't speak fluently in English, and even then quite a few of the non-English speaking players that log on know the basics of English as far as I can tell. If suddenly 30-50% of people logging on don't speak any English then this would be worth implementing to retain some of these players, but I don't see that this is enough of a problem right now (or that it will be any time soon) to spend time implementing.
I totally +1 this plugin, this would help to new players from different nationalities that don't know how to speak english to make the game/communication for help easier.
Georgia, I agree, but I also believe that even if it's only one player, they are worth it. I believe this is the mind -set staff should have. We should be considerate of any players wanting to join and keep in mind that more players could join later. Even if it's only "1% of players that log on don't speak fluently in English" I believe we should at least try to accommodate them.
The first plugin you listed looks like every other plugin would need to be modified to support it, something I'm sure Jamie wouldn't be a fan of.
If so, then it probably wouldn't be usable. Which is unfortunate, but understandable as I know that Jamie is extremely busy.
+1 I have a friend that was looking at servers on one of the server website and didn’t want to join ECC because it is listed as an English server. I’m sure there are others out there just like him
Holy shit, you weren't kidding. The first plugin linked is a massive library. It basically is an interface to a database that holds a user's "language" of choice. From then, you can get the selected language, and process it in other plugins. This would mean over 200k lines of code would need to change to implement this. Sorry, but that's straight out of the question. The other plugin was last updated in 2014, and is not something I'm willing to maintain myself. This is a great idea. But the overhead is massive. We would have had to design ECC from the ground up with this in mind.
