hey there, I'm a very avid fisher here on ECC, and I think its time we get some changes to the way fishing works on the server. I will be discussing multiple points in detail, providing personal collected data when necessary. Enjoy. Treasure and Trash To begin this section, I'd like to propose a simple solution: eliminate trash past a certain level entirely. Some of the items included in the trash pool are leather, string, dirt blocks, sand blocks, ink sacs, and other almost worthless items. I am proposing that once MCMMO level 100 is reached, trash is completely eliminated from the pool of items that can be fished. Getting to level 100 takes an extremely long time while fishing, and doing this will promote putting more time into the skill. The second change I would like to propose is a change to the treasure item pool. I've put together a list of the last 10 treasures I've gotten to highlight why a change is needed: 3x name tag (No server value, typically 100$) 2x saddle (No server value, typically 15-30$) 2x ender pearl (3$) 1x diamond pickax (No server value, typically 75-100$) 1x gold nugget (1$) 1x iron nugget (0.75$) Now, the issue I have here is that some, and in fact most of these treasures, are worth less than your typical catch of salmon (20$) and Cod (10$). My proposal is to eliminate anything from the treasure pool that sells less than salmon, including saddles, as I have unsuccessfully tried to auction them at 20 dollars 3 separate times. One of the biggest reasons I am requesting this change is due to the fact that, as you level up, your chance of treasure increases. With such mediocre and poorly-valued treasure filling the item pool, catching a treasure is very often losing you money, as it replaced a cod (10$), salmon (20$), puffer fish (30$), or tropical fish (40$). Onto what items would replace those worth less than 20$. The following items that I suggest are listed below, alongside their typical values and a short bit on why they would make a good fit. Heart of the Sea (250$) Thematically, this makes perfect sense to be added as a rare treasure drop. The value is not too insane that it makes fishing overpowered, and wouldn't impact the economy too hard considering the low rate at which treasure drops, even at a high level. Diamonds (25$) Diamonds would be a great addition to the treasure pool. They're iconic, provide a nice little profit akin to puffer fish, and are actual treasure, unlike many of the current items like saddles and gold nuggets Iron Block (67.50$) and Gold Block (90$) These could replace the iron and gold nuggets. More fitting in terms of value, as the current iteration of gold and iron treasures (the nuggets) are actually a detriment when compared to normal catches. MCMMO Skill Changes One of the MCMMO skills I have a huge problem with is the shaking skill. What shaking does is it allows the player to cast a line and hook a mob, and when you return the line by clicking again, has a chance to "shake" off items typically dropped when that mob dies. You can usually get 2-3x what is normally gotten from killing the mob, depending on your shake percent chance, which increases by level. Now, why do I have a problem with this. Well, the biggest issue is that the act of shaking completely ignores unbreaking enchantments. While using an Unbreaking III rod, i was only able to get 50 or so uses out of it before it was in danger of breaking with a few more uses, and seeing as vanilla unenchanted rods have 60 uses, its pretty clear that the mechanic does in fact completely ignore unbreaking. Secondly, I would like to propose a replacement for the "fisherman's diet" skill. What this skill does is allows the player to restore extra health from fished food items based on level. This skill is nearly useless, seeing as the start kit grants 32 cooked pork chops , which can be used every 12 hours. I have never found myself in need of food so badly that I had to cook and eat the fish I caught. In addition, this promotes consuming and destroying your source of income if you fish for money. I would replace this skill with something I've named "fisherman's fortune". What this skill does is grants a % chance to double whatever you caught, so catching a cod would yield 2 cod, and so on. In terms of stats, this skill would start at 0%, and go up .5% every 25 levels, until you reach level 500, where it would cap at 10%. Conclusion it's no surprise why half the server laughs when you mention fishing as your source of income, and it's even less of a surprise when you find that almost nobody else fishes. It's because the fishing system is in dire need of a rebalance, in both the loot and mcmmo skill department. I hope you consider the changes I've proposed, and I'd be happy to collect any more data regarding treasure drops, trash drops, shaking drops, and anything else you can think of, just let me know. Cheers, -PublicRadio
Since this is a post for General Discussion and not a direct suggestion, I think it's important we focus more on the concept of this. Most "treasures" are indeed worth less than even the $10 cod fish, so the idea decreasing them is important for progressive success at higher fishing levels. Also, spawners already get many treasure drops such as ender pearls, blaze rods, ghast tears, and string. The introduced items of gold blocks, iron blocks, and heart of the seas represent the need for server prices on better treasure to make it more practical for making money. Without server prices, sell prices can't be scaled with prestige and just falls even more behind mining and farming. Fishermen's diet is definitely not useful right now, and it would be nice to chance durability impacts on shaking mobs in order to make it more free to play friendly. Without enchanted repair feature, it's hard to do repeatedly. TL;DR With a suggestion to buff fishing put under review, we know that fishing needs some sort of rework. Thanks for the ideas!
We literally had so many revamps to fishing treasures and @Nicit6 spent so much time and effort into making it great (believe you did the recent revamp of fishing treasure). Fishing is great how it is and believe it shouldn’t be changed (plus, fishing is built to be only good at very high levels). So huge -1 PS: suggested many times and denied many times
Nicit just recently revamped treasures. I’m not going to continue changing it. Mcmmo suggestions I have no control over. The developer of mcmmo has a new version out right now however I’m currently waiting on a specific update before I proceed to migrate us to the new mcmmo. This update can take a few more weeks/months for the developer to finish. Once migrated we can potentially examine getting new skills added, however, again this is something only the mcmmo author controls and the most we can do is make suggestions to him.
