...I know they are illegal, but are they simillar to the whole "minewars" thing? I'm just asking because I had an idea to sell chests with items in it, and describe only a few items in it, for interest of the chest. Just wonderring if I have to divulge all the contents, or if any of this is allowed. Thanks. FYI - I ask only, because I did not start yet and I want to make sure everything was legit and up to server coder before I do.
After looking through the rules, the only thing that covers this type of activity is mystery auctions. They are not allowed, but that seems to apply to auction chat. You seem fine to sell chests that the contents are unknow. But to be safe, becuase that could be considered a mystery auction, I would suggest you describe some of the objects and name your event <instert something here> wars. Also make sure you tell the users that they are not being told about all the objects in the chest. I should add a mod can say I am terribly wrong. You should go with a mod answer at all times.
You should go with the answer of more than one mod at all times. Sometimes, a mod could make a mistake after a recent rule change or discussion, and other times, there could be a misunderstanding...2 or more staff members is a lot safer. I've seen people banned for breaking the rules after getting a mod to confirm it was "fine". However, when the mod said it was fine, they didn't mean that he should go and do it time after time. (For example - a guy swears in chat, another guy freaks out, and a mod says that "swearing is allowed". A user who sees this then continues to swear to such an extent that would get him banned on the spot...the mod didn't mean it was allowed completely like that, just that the light swearing the other guy did was. Edit: Generally, though, common sense should say what is allowed and not allowed for most things. For this, however, I can see how you are puzzled. You should probably wait for the mod response(s) before doing anything.
Jetscat Let's try calling in the experts instead of giving shady, partial, general, or off-topic answers.
Could you go into detail what you mean by Mystery boxes? You say it's illegal... If it's illegal, then it isn't allowed.
He means that mystery auctions are illegal due to the fact that it's easy to scam when the buyer doesn't know what he's paying for. In the same way, Minewars buyers are unaware of what they are paying for so that is to say that bidding on a Minewars locker is the same as bidding on a mystery auction.
Sounds to me like you're saying minewars events are illegal. I think a clear yes or no answer to the original question would be much more helpful
I was only clarifying the matter at hand, for Jetscat's sake. Minewars is not illegal. Users who participate understand that they are bidding on unannounced goods. Now, this doesn't mean that mystery auctions should be legalized. Mystery auctions, as we all know, have a wonderful history of being scams.
The rule states that: Section VIII: Chat Clause III: Auction Channel There is to be no *Mystery Auctions* in the auction channel. Every item for auction must be described prior to beginning the auction. Minewars does not use the auction channel. Users are allowed to come to the town and look over the contents and bid from what they can see. The lockers *could* only contain what you can see from the door, but everyone knows the chests are full of the more valuable items and what makes it fun to begin with. To me the original posters idea should be fine but I will let Jets make a ruling here since he's had way more experience running these types of "events". RagMan
As of now Minewars is allowed, Mystery Auctions aren't allowed (In auction channel). Andrewkm has supported Minewars before, but hasn't mystery auctions, therefor, it isn't allowed. *In Auction Channel*
Although...while Minewars is legal because it's not in auction chat, that does not mean you can tp someone to you and sell a mystery box in local there. They have to at least have an idea of what's in there - Minewars lockers can show things like diamond blocks and such.
Also, on a page I saw, I'm pretty sure I saw Jetscat say all lockers have a guarenteed worth of 20k, but I could be wrong
Wow. Sorry for the confusion. I was planning on holding an event where there are chests with signs next to them with with a list of items (some items blanked out). I don't use the auction chat for an event because, I know it's not what the channel is used for. Simple, yes or no, from a mod please to confirm. (Just to clarify) Thanks!
