I've seen nothing relevent come out of the shoutbox in recent days. It seems to be a place where trolls/ragers/banned users come to complaint and frankly I'm tired of seeing it. It's at the top of the forum so all the users that want negative attention get to spam it for the joy of those who don't like rules being broken. And it's poorly moderated because there is basically only one rule in it: don't talk about appeals. But we won't forum warn anyone for doing that so the banned users just keep on going.

    Anyways /endrant.

tl;dr either enforce shoutbox rules or remove it

I like to communicate with others during my ban. I see where you're coming from though. However, when the server goes down, lots of people go there, as well as inexperienced users who need help. I see where you're coming from, but it won't happen.

I agree that this is the most drastic way of dealing with shoutbox abuse. I've brought this up with staff but I'd like community opinion which can be more powerful than staff's at times. Hopefully this half serious suggestion gets upper staff attention.

Otherwise what did you think of enforcing shoutbox rules?

I'm sure there are ways to edit/remove posts I'm the shoutbox. More moderation would be nice, however.

Removing the shoutbox would just be bad. The shoutbox is ideally used for asking the community a question to help them or to direct players to a thread. Removing it would be a bad idea imo.

Regarding editing/removing posts, we only do that if they are vulgar, extremely spammy, or are advertising. What I want is the mandate to do so.

Instead of removing it, multiple ways to fix shoutbox

    1. Remove all banned players from it, whether forum ban or ingame ban
    2. Give forum warnings or even forum bans for anything trolly/inappropriate/spammy said in the shoutbox
    3. Treat the shoutbox like teamspeak; people can be banned and have to appeal
    4. Repeat offenders get perma-banned from shoutbox
    5. Make watching the shoutbox a regular job for moderators, having them check it every 5-10 minutes or so

These don't have to be implemented together, they're just multiple ways to fix this problem.

Just ban users if they break a shoutbox rule, and make it a 50k application if they want to be unbanned.

-1, was very active when server was down 2 days ago and let users communicate, see no need to remove it, just start giving out shout box temp bans?...

This would require gameadmin+ to use the admin cp. Would be easier just to forum ban.

That's fine as well, just don't like idea of removing it completely, I say we can get forum warnings from shout box, which will total in to other forum bans

Exactly what I am trying to get here. There are currently no precedures to how moderation is done in the shoutbox. I like how it is in ban appeals/complaints, any rule you break gets you a forum warning. I'd like it that way.

Instead of removing shoutbox entirely, i think it would be better for there to be more rules added to shoutbox.

    I would do this:

Split Ban Appeals and Complaints into separate forums.

When Player is banned in game: they become banned on the forum as well (more work for staff, but worth it)
If a player becomes gains 3 warnings on the forum, they are also banned on the forums indefinitely unless they appeal.

Banned players cannot see or use anything except the ban appeal section.
Forum Banned players can appeal in here as well but if forum banned 3 times (9 forum warns) they are banned on the forums.

    ----

As for the Shoutbox on rules, add advertising, trolling, rude language all to the warn list of the shoutbox,
This will certainly sort out the rule breakers from everyone else, it may be harsh, but once one person goes, you'll be surprised how many other people will instead start following the rules.

I have a feeling that it is possible to ban someone from just the shout box, which would be useful in this situation - I will look into it.

-1 on getting rid of it entirely. There are far more players that use it right than there are those that use it wrong, they are just less vocal.

+1 to mission001s idea I think that would be the way to go.

I don't have a problem with enforcing shoutbox rules. I would like to see that happen more often actually. Staff are way too lenient when it comes to the shoutbox in my opinion, and I think it would be a step in the right direction.

Absolutely not. It wasn't always like this. All you have to do is enforce the rules more heavily and give more dire consequences. I've been saying this till I'm blue in the face; people need discipline. And currently not a whole lot is being given.

From what I understood all the rules regarding chat in-game applied to the forum as well. The general forum rules, here, make no exceptions for the Shoutbox, though it more specifically deals with thread content, discussions, signatures, etc. With the exclusion of trade/auction, etc, which cannot be used or accessed through the forum, the chat rules here are the standard with which I have tried, with occasional success, to enforce or maintain. As in game, so follows the forum.
