After seeing some threads on here, i started thinking "What is be the most efficient money making method, when it comes to farming?" Wheat or melons? Well, ofcourse there are many factors in play here, that decides which one is best, but lets say if we had the best wheat farm (Semi automatic powered by redstone lamps) - VS a huge melon farm and you had one of the best axes ingame: EFF IIII Unbreakable. Which crop do you think is the best one, profit wise? - Or are they pretty much balanced? Feel free to leave a comment, and vote in the poll
Wheat is the best in my opinion, if you have the farm built right, a 1 chunk semi auto wheat farm can easily make 20k an hour, with no afking. As for melon farming, the money it would take to buy an axe worth using is definantly a downside, also inluding the repair costs of enchanted tools (assuming you havent donated for it) Wheat farming destroys easily, and makes money fast.
When you are farming wheat with s-auto redstonelamps you get on average 166$ per min. So, about $500 per 3 min so 500 / 3 = 166.6... When farming melon with eff 4 diamondaxe you get 11 stacks per min so thats 64 x 11 = 704. Then take (0.20 is the price of every m-slice) 704 x 0.20 = 140.8. So it's very much the same, but you get more with farming wheat. (Wheat = $166 Melon = $140)
Unless you have a silk touch axe in which case you get $2 per melon block harvested. Combine that withh Eff IV and you are making more than wheat. Plus you dont need to replant. That being said, if you dont have a silk touch tool (I realized it doesnt need to be an axe. It could be a pick or shovel) then wheat is the way to go
I'd have to go with wheat and pumpkins..... melons get all weird and laggy for me and I have to break them 2 or 3 times before they drop the goods. Never have that issue with pumpkin and wheat
LISTEN LISTEN I HAS THE BEST WAY OK SO MAKE 5-6 LAYERS OF MELON IN A 32x32 SQUARE WHICH LINES UP WITH CHUNKS THEN DO WHAT TO SKY IN A SEMI-AUTO WATER BUT STILL IN THE 32x32 FARM MELONS UNTIL WHEAT GROWN. HIT WATER. COLLECT MONIES. HIRE SOMEONE TO PLANT WHEAT WHILE FARM MELONS DONE
Sorry, but I have a side question. What is a semi auto wheat farm with redstone lamps? I thought there were no pistons on ECC, how then do you make a farm even semi auto? Thanks.
You plant the seeds, when the growing is done, you activate a redstone button/lever that turns off redstone lamps (their light source) and causes all the wheat/seeds to pop up.
I was wondering, when making a 16x16 wheat farm, should the crops be in a 16x16? Or do you count the cobblestone/wood of the building also? So that the plot would need to be 17x17 because it should be surrounded by cobblestone? I'm just wanting to build a efficent wheat farm, so i'd like to know this
I think wheat is better. Here is my evidence assuming an area that is fully grown at all times (e.g. for wheat you have stacked farms and a set up for melon that is fully grown as well) Time Considerations: Wheat = instant harvest of entire field + seed planting time Melon = chop time to harvest Chop time > seed plant time (even with the best e-axe) Also to get the same number of melon harvested you need a larger area as you cannot plant as many melon as you can wheat in a given chunk. So in a given time period you can harvest more wheat than you can melon. Does this make up for the $.50 difference in price? I would argue yes, but in addition, you do not need any tools for wheat harvest or plant, hence no repair costs (btw if you have enchanted repair, you paid for it in some manner and is a fixed cost that will get smaller over time, but still exists). Additionally there are excess seeds that can be sold after wheat harvest that closes the gap on the price differential. There are also the considerations to be take into account including farm set-up costs for wheat and maintenance costs (in time and lost growth for melon due to digging in ground or chopping a stem with your axe). I wonder if someone should do a race over a given period of time melon vs. wheat and see who is the victor....
im gonna have to sugest a 32x32x12 melon and pumpkin farm with a eff 5 unb 3 diamond tool or a eff5 silk touch diamond tool and maybe add an unb 1 so then u have the pumpkins and the melons plus maybe a story of a semi-automatic wheat farm so u can farm the melons and pumpkins while the wheat is growing
my opinion on the subject wheat is good, it breaks really fast, but the one issue is replanting it wheat is also good because it can fit alot over the melons, (ie i can plant 200 wheat in my 16x16 farm, and melons can fit about 60 but here is the thing about melons, melons are 2 dollars a piece, and once you plant it your good and once its ready to harvest your all set to go. melons are also good for the fact that a silk touch axe+ eff 4/5 is really good for it BUT, i prefer pumpkins as it can break faster then wheat sometimes, with a eff 5 axe, and you can go through a 200x2 area really quick with it, and its no replant here is the downsides of both downside of wheat- replanting it, getting all the seeds, inventory space (seeds take up alot of space eventually) downside of melons- less room for harvesting, waiting for stem to grow, silk touch axe downside of pumpkins- less room for harvesting, waiting for stem to grow, isnt efficient unless you have a eff 5 axe this is my opinion, i know there is alot of opinions on this subject but i prefer pumpkins -vengfulbacon
