As we are all aware, ECC 1.18 is on the horizon, with many new and exciting changes to vanilla Minecraft. With the new update comes changes to VMR booklet. This thread is designed in such a way for players to see what they should get now in 1.17 and what they should wait for in 1.18

Obviously, if you obtain any item listed before the 1.18 update, sell it. This is a list of what you should actively hunt before 1.18 and what you should actively hunt after 1.18 if possible

    New items for 1.18:
    • Otherside Music Disc
      • There is technically only one new item for 1.18 and it's this disc. It can be found in dungeon chests and one single chest in strongholds (although dungeon chests are your best bet). Because of this, if you are trying to obtain items in 1.17 (without trying to complete it before 1.18), I would hold off on trying to loot items that are found in dungeon chests as you would need to do it again for 1.18. Items you should hold off on include: Notch Apples, Saddles, Horse Armors, and Name Tags. Obviously if you find these items, sell them, I would just wait to actively look for them until after 1.18
Items you should obtain before 1.18:
    • Glow Sacs/Glow Item Frames
      • With 1.18, the glow squids are going to be a little harder and more dangerous to farm as they will start spawning in underground water caves come 1.18. As they are right now, you can find them in oceans and other exposed bodies of water
    • Bucket of Axolotl
      • Just like glow squids, come 1.18, axolotls are going to be harder to find as they spawn in lush caves and at slightly reduced rates as they are now. Also like glow squids, axolotls can spawn in exposed bodies of water in 1.17, making it safer and easier to farm.
    • Deepslate Coal Ore
      • In 1.18, there are going to be two major changes to stone and ore distribution: deepslate will spawn at y-levels below 4 sparsely (with it fully starting under y:0) and all ores will only generate within different and specific y-levels (with some being more common at other levels). Coal ore only spawns above y:0 and deepslate really starts spawning below y:0. Deepslate Coal Ore is one of the rarest ores in 1.18 and is one of the more common ones in 1.17
    • Deepslate Emerald Ore
      • Deepslate Emerald Ore is already pretty rare in 1.17, but it will get slightly rarer in 1.18 due to the new ore distribution. It doesn't really matter too too much what update you get it in, but it is more common in 1.17
    • Normal Diamond Ore
      • With the new ore generation of 1.18, Normal Diamond Ore is going to be even rarer since generation is lowered to more of the negative y-levels
    • Normal Redstone Ore
      • While still fairly common in 1.18, Normal Redstone Ore is getting a minor hit in 1.18 due to the new ore distribution
Items you should get after VMR 1.18 drops:
    • Small and Large Dripleaves
      • They are currently in the rare crates in 1.17 (as they are not obtainable in 1.17), but they are super common in 1.18
    • Spore Blossom
      • They are currently in the rare crates in 1.17 (as they are not obtainable in 1.17), but they are super common in 1.18
    • Deepslate Copper Ore
      • Much more common in 1.18, but obviously if you find some in 1.17, get it and sell it; 1.17 Deepslate Copper Ore was the second rarest Deepslate Ore
    • Glow Berries
      • They are pretty easy to get once you find a single glow berry from a minecart chest, but they are super common in 1.18.
    • Moss Block/Moss Carpet
      • Like glow berries, if you find a single moss block in a 1.17 shipwreck, they are easy to obtain with bonemeal, but they are super common in 1.18
    • Azalea/Flowering Azalea Saplings and Leaves
      • Just like the other items I've listed, they are easy to get once you get a moss block, but come 1.18, they are even more common due to lush caves and the occasional tree on the surface
    • Hanging Roots and Rooted Dirt
      • Again, easy to get in 1.17 if you find a moss block, but in 1.18, they are even more common
    • Powdered Snow Buckets
      • In 1.17, the only way to get this item was waiting by a cauldron in a snowy biome for many hours, but in 1.18, they naturally generate in the new mountain biomes, ready to be obtained with a bucket
    • Deepslate Diamond Ore
      • Deepslate Diamond Ore is more common than normal Diamond Ore due to it generating more under y:0
    • Normal Emerald Ore
      • In the new ore distribution, Emerald Ore is going to spawn more frequent and at much higher y-levels in 1.18

If I missed anything, please leave a comment so I can add it
