Minecraft Name: lurkblader Suggestion: Title says it all. If you are in <AFK> mode on, you should also be alerted by giving them message something like "You are AFK mode right now. Turn it off!", or "Why are you still <AFK> mode?", when you are pming to someone. Reason: First, lot of people forget to turn off their afk mode when they are back to computer, and just pm someone. You feel sorry if you get noticed that my afk mode is on. And as person who is getting pmed by <afk>ed person, I am tired of telling them "You are in AFK mode right now." Most of them who has common sense and manner say "Oh I didn't know. Sorry. I just turned it off.", but sometimes rarely, rude annoying player who doesn't know CHAT MANNER tells me back "I know." And even saying "I don't care. I want to leave it on." when I ask to turn it off while pming to me. I think people can be selfish because it doesn't do any harm to themselves.. This is why we need system to give alert message to themselves too, so that their chat space also gets filled and make them also annoying from that alert. And it will automatically let them learn to turn off, when they are pming someone. And people who have good manner, they would be happy to get alerted, because they will immediatly turn off every time when they see this alert message, so they don't have to keep feel sorry to other person when they forgot. Any Other Information: Or, there is also another way, that makes player's AFK mode automatically off when he pms someone, so you don't have to worry about it. But someone said "What if I want to pm with someone privately, with afk mode on, to let other people know as you are afk? What if other person you are talking in private, don't mind getting chat space filled with afk alert, because he is generous, or he is soo close friend in real life that understands anything?". So, considering this kinda situation, I think first way i suggested, which is giving alert message to whoever tries to pm someone when their afk mode is on, will be better option, to give choice for player himself. A prompt message for them to turn it off when pming someone else with it on is a good idea in my mind. I have no objections, I say we add it
I'm trying to be polite tho. Maybe they have it on to avoid taking to people like me who are social pariahs and have offended everyone with everything they say.
Just yesterday I had an entire conversation with Outerlocal before I realized my afk was still on. This would be really nice because we as humans are forgetful and it can be embarrassing at times. Although maybe have a different message pop up because the one proposed is a bit blunt. +1
You can still keep it on, but it just gives a message to you if you /pm someone else. If they don't mind/get stuck looking at your afk message, you'll have to don't mind/get stuck watching your info message.
No. I have an afk message that says I am half afk because sometimes I don't wasn't to respond to people while I'm doing homework or something.
So? I meant only when you pm to someone. I am not saying like it's gonna appear as loop message that constantly shows like some kinda vote reminder when you didn't vote, and keep torturing you to turn off or something. Alert message that you are afk, only appears when you are pming to someone. I don't think that will make you annoying when you turned on the afk mode, and do your homework as you said "half afk"... If you don't do pm to anybody, you will never see that message, so what's the matter with that? My point is just, let's be fair. if afked person is torturing other person who's talking with, through making them forcefully see the afk alert message everytime when you talk back in pm conversation, afked person himself should also get afk alert message everytime when he talks. I think that is "fair". And you still saying "No" to this suggestion? If you are.. then i think you are little bit selfish on this case.
That. I sometimes ignore people just because they want an e-repair or a service from me. I sometimes have to PM other people for other reasons and I don't want people constantly PMing me for a service.
>.< is it really that hard to do a quick E-rep , if you're bust just tell em that, or ask them to ask in an hour or so? Anyway +1 to the suggestion, I see no reason not to
As much as I agree, sometimes I set an afk message while still playing for various reasons and don't want to be alerted every time I message someone. Maybe add the alert but also add a second "do not disturb" message that doesn't alert you when on? Or a way to turn off the alert? Still, this is a good idea.
If you aren't going to be paying much attention to, or actually playing the game, and are only on to chat with specific people, maybe try getting their Skype, Yahoo!, etc...? It would be nice to have a notification that tells you if you are AFK, though. Maybe sent every other message you receive, with a Navi-like message, "Hey, listen! You are AFK." (Candy for those who know the reference.)
Bump. Sorry guys for bumping 2 months old thread.. But I really wanted to bump this because this is my suggestion that I want this to be looked by andrewkm(hopefully)... Please Andrewkm. I think alert message should be also given to whoever attempts to pm someone while their afk mode is on... After 1.7 update, macro mod's label that tells my current <afk> mode are gone, cuz macro mod for 1.7 didn't come out yet, so I made few shameful mistake not turning them off while I pmed someone. I really think this is necessary. Not everybody has macromod that tells afkmode status, or not everybody has investigator to use "/v" instead of "/ch afk". I just think this is kinda basic things that needs when you think in common sense. "/ch afk" is about telling that you are afk. You need to get alert message that tells you to turn off when you pm someone while it's on. This is basic CHAT MANNER. People whoever are seeing this thread new, feel free to add more replies on your thought.
+1. I've forgotten many a time that I had my /afk enabled. For some reason, a lot of people tend to think that you will realize you have it on and they don't tell you for quite some time. With something like this, you wouldn't have that problem at all. I doubt it would be that difficult to implement, so I don't see any reason why this would not be considered.
I apologize to everyone that has ever had to see me afk - there are times when it is required. I would love to see this suggestion done if possible since I am one that does tend to forget taking it off - and putting it on as well.
