    Thread Title: Town Plot Permissions

Ive played a server before where in towns like you have on ECC that you can use a wooden axe (i think) to set an area within that town and set it to a specific person. this is so that only this person and all full owners of the town can build within this area. basically this would stop greifing of all other buildings in the area as standard only the owner would have permission to the town and it would be upto them to designate plots etc

    Minecraft Name:

    Lowndsy2011

    Reason:

Would prevent greifing and makes it easier to sell plots and stuff, also i heard that you can set the area in a sign and someone could purchase the plot via a trade sign and it would auto give them permissions to that specific area, say like a 10x10 or 15x15 plot. this could also be used to sell prebuilts easily

    Link to this plugin:

Not entirely sure on the name/link to this plugin but ill have a quick look and see what i can find!

I'm not quite sure wether this would be a good idea for ECC but it think it is very creative idea none the less. ECC is a hardcore economy server so I'm not quite sure how this would be implemented but maybe some how it could be.

The plugin for this is WorldGuard, which we already have so it wouldn't be hard to implement. However, if we are to somewhat limit it to players being able to place just in their town, it would be an awesome idea! The only problem I see is the amount if data it would consume on the servers files.

I'm not overly sure but maybe it could be like a mayor command for like /woodaxe or something that gives a user an axe that's used for the plots and therefor builders and residents can't use them, I don't know about limiting it to just your own town though? However what's the point in doing it in the wild? Not overly sure? Thanks for your responses though!

The plugin Greif Protection has something like this. But I dont see an issue with the way ECC currently handles towns.

Yeah but what if your in a town that accepts builders and presidents? And you've built an awesome house and then all of a sudden, boom, some builder demolishes it over night, I know we have investigation and rolls backs but this simple plugin would save staff a chunk of time they could be spending on other things instead

Plus it saves you the hassle of filing a complaint. If it's an easy to implement plug-in I think it should be implemented. I was actually surprised with my first plot purchased that this wasn't how it went.

    Hm...the axe is from worldguard.
I have thoroughly experimented with worldguard on a singleplayer server (Bukkit server + localhost) and I think there might be a problem...
the problem might consist in limiting users of only using the wooden axe in a town they have permission to. Basically, we'd need to give every single player WorldGuard permission then. I think this may cause major problems concerning the safety of it, however if a mod/admin/dev/experienced user knows about it better than me, feel free to correct me! :)

TL;DR: I think players would be able to manipulate protected WorldGuard regions unless it can be coded that they can only use it in a town they are added to. (Imagine somebody would create permission areas at spawn where he can grief without a problem)

currently with the information I've been given from this thread I like this idea alot, however if a more experienced user know something that has a significant drawback feel free to enlighten me.

-1 this is not worth it. Also Mods would have to implement this. Also if a co mayor turned on u they would screw up the town. This would just cause WAY more problems then it's worth. This is what grief reports are for

i dont agree with you here mate, just leave perms to the controls to the mayors, don't need co mayors to have perms really

don't see why this would cause any problems at all

How so? The suggestion says the full owner and the person who's given the permission can build in it. Mods wouldn't have to implement it to my understanding of the suggestion the owner gets the ability to set these plots. I may be wrong ._.

Chances are some users don't have enough knowledge on how to actually create a region with world guard. I think that would be another issue.

Wrong...then you have only selected something. Then you need to know the correct //-commands to actually subdivide the town.

EDIT: @Vintage_Gamer, I was first. However, you were more thorough. :) That is completely correct...not really easy to set a subdivision.

    Nope. Select two corners
    //expand vertical
    /rg define <region name>
    /rg addowner <region name> <user>

And then because it is a region within a region, you will need to set the priority to a number higher than 1. So yeah...

    Then you are done...

It probably used a plugin like Greif Protection. With that plugin you literally select two corners and then add a user to it. But world guard is more flexible to ECC's needs.
