[Suggestion] Resident Moderators

Residents used to be able to apply for mod about 2 years ago.

 

Yes, now you need mayor probably to show you have been playing for a while and are dedicated.

 

Builders could once apply... Then it was bumped up to Resident... And finally bumped up to Mayor. Depending on how you look at it, there have been better Staff since it was bumped up to Mayor requirement. (Partially because of all the troll applications and applications that really did not understand the server or the volunteer job.)

Although a Resident could have joined a long time ago, it does not necessarily mean that they have achieved a lot or played much. Generally to get Mayor you will spend a fair deal of time playing and getting to know the server, applications, users, etc, which is all needed to be a Moderator+.

I don't disagree that some Residents are mature or know a fair amount about the server, but most probably are not familiar enough. It is a lot harder to know how much they have actually done. So even if Residents could apply for Staff, I am not sure how many would really be considered. :s

 

Some maters have only been on the server little over a month. How could they know it we'll enough?

 

The staff team need to be knowledgable as they are expected to be able to answer any questions thrown at them regarding ECC. You can get resident with very little playing time and personally I feel like a lot of residents would not have the knowledge required to be staff.

I appreciate that this is a generalisation and doesn't apply to every person, but I don't think requiring applicants to be Mayor+ is unreasonable. It helps guarantee that applicants have a reasonable level of playtime on the server but also isn't too stringent as to exclude people completely. If you are serious about being staff, being Mayor+ really shouldn't be an obstacle.
