[Suggestion] Remove banned users from the chatbox

There's a difference between discussing a banned user and a banned user talking. Of course, if the banned user is complaining about his ban or anything of the sort, he should receive a warning. But I don't think he shouldn't be allowed to use the shoutbox.

There is basically nothing gained by promoting this idea into practice. The current system is functional and does not require change. Lets instead admend the rule to restrict talking about the nature of a user's ban, while reserving everyone the right to continue to talk about the banned user as a person. There are so many great contributions which have been made by currently banned users, among these contributions is part of the City of Epigraph, my town, which is arguably one of the greatest in ECC. Sadly though, I am disallowed the right to educate my current members about my town's history due to this silly rule.

I constantly see banned players fill up the chatbox and complaining about their bans. It really gets annyoing after a while when tempbanned players start counting down every 5 minutes until they are banned. Even if this does not happen, I suggest giving banned plAyers a forum warning if they complain or talk about their ban excessively.

 

The only thing people actually use the shoutbox for is to advertise, post memes and complain. I really don't see why we should ban an entire group of people based on a few.

 

+1 as for people who dont agree your stuck in a rut really none of you want change. Why change something if it works? Because it makes it better! If people keep smacking down good suggestions like this ECC will never improve.

I find it really annoying watching banned users in the shoutbox, almost 90% of the time they're discussing their ban or how long until they're unbanned, it really is a big nuisance, I'd like to see this happen. +1

 

Well, if people get out of line on the forums they can always be given a forum warning or forum ban (temporary, or maybe even permanent if it's really serious). So, with that being the case, it seems like the current system works well enough.

 

And how exactly would this suggestion make things better? The staff can always just issue temporary forum bans to the people who discuss their bans in the shoutbox.

 

The forums and in-game are both different social environments (forum covers many topics, in-game is mainly in-game). Why should we ban from the shoutbox - therefore the entire forum - when they broke a rule in-game? A user could very well still post - without causing issues - on the forum, while banned in-game. (Anyone who brings up TS3 - TS3 is far easier to abuse, warn and kick on, get evidence, etc from. Forums are not. And, actually, TS3 is one of the - or the - hardest platforms we have to moderate.)

Any time a banned user discusses their ban/breaks a universal chat rule or a shoutbox rule, we handle them accordingly in the shoutbox. And, if at any time you don't see a Staff member around to handle it (more or less when it gets out of hand/isn't one simple, small mention), and it goes unnoticed, you can always make a complaint thread.

Being banned and talking is not the same as talking about a banned user. Being banned shouldn't inherently make you a non-discussable topic or essentially a person against the rules. That is not right. If that were the case, then we might as well ban them on every single social media ECC is tied to. That is not only a lot of work, but unnecessary. As well, talking about a banned user can cause drama; just being a banned user does not automatically make you a human embodiment of "drama." (i.e. talking about is like a "touchy subject," but being is far less so)

Lastly, banning them from talking in the shoutbox would require a forum ban. While banned on the forum, you cannot make a ban appeal.

 

In that case, why not only forum ban them when they are tempbanned? Usually when they appeal, they are either unbanned or given a tempban. Those who have been temp-banned, know exactly when they will be able to get on, and start counting down hours until they are back.

 

I disagree,

First, banned users still have their right to the shoutbox. Every user above resident does. Even though they are banned, the shoutbox is a banned users key to the ECC world. Although it can get annoying, they should still have that ability to use it. Also, I've seen you trying to make these suggestions lately with banned players or rules associated with bans. Care to explain?

Normally I'd agree with shoutbox bans (for several reasons, but since it can't happen i won't list em). But I don't agree with an entire forum ban.

I haven't really read through the thread, but I've read the main post. I think that honestly, banned users really shouldn't be able to post like a normal player (i.e. responding to complaints and such), now I'm not saying we have to ban them from the forums, because if they will need to appeal or post a complaint, but I still think that users shouldn't really be able to use the forums if they're banned, there have been a few occasions in my time on ECC, where someone got banned in game for scamming, and they scammed A LOT of people, didn't want to repay them, so they just spent a ton of time on the forums, responding to everything, and posting like a normal member, just ignoring the fact that they really should be repaying the users they scammed.

 

The only thing that would be a downside to this would be appeals that are to be PMed to andrewkm and Skylexia, since you would need the forums to communicate with them.

Unlike spamming before a restart which might give you a tempban with no appeal, you know exactly when you will be unbanned.
