    Suggestion: Redefine what is an “Economy Exploit”

    Reason: current rules allow significant economic damage with a possibility of light punishment

    Any Other Information: In part (I removed the irrelevant parts), the current version of Section VI of the server rules is as follows. I have highlighted the especially relevant passages in red.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Section VI: Hacking, Exploiting and Unfair Play
    Clause I: Hacking and Hacked Clients
    Fly, speed, air build, and teleport hacking is not tolerated - as with all other hacking. This includes x-ray hacking, as well as x-ray texture packs. Using any clients, specifically hacked clients, which may allow you to gain unfair advantages as deemed by ECC staff is strictly prohibited.Users caught using any client deemed to be a "hacked client", as defined by and at the discretion of the staff, will be banned. There is no excuse for using a hacked client on EcoCityCraft whatsoever. Discussion of hacking and hacked clients is also off limits, as we do not allow them here we also do not discuss them.
    Clause III: Exploiting
    Abuse of any exploits, bugs, or glitches can result in a punishment based on the severity of abuse. Those are unfair "advantages" that can cause major issues.
    Clause III.ii: Economy Exploits
    Any user caught severely exploiting the Economy in any way without reporting the glitch or bug will be severely punished. There will be absolutely no chance of appeal for this sort of action.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Currently, there can exist situations in which players can intentionally install and use certain features of hacked clients to exploit the Economy in a way that could be called “severe”, depending on how heavily they use the features in question. But, because they are not taking advantage of a “bug” with a plugin, it seems like the current interpretation of the rules are putting their crime under “Clause I”. ECC has an excellent staff team but I feel like the rule on this type of crime as currently written is guiding the Staff in an overly-lenient direction in regards to hacked client-based economy exploits.

    Because it is so advantageous to use these features, my suggestion is that crimes of this kind, when the hacked client features are damaging and heavily used, be punished under the much more severe guidelines of Clause III, Section ii, which as written calls for a lasting ban without the possibility of reinstatement.

    I hope that I am not out of line in regards to making this suggestion. I have the deepest respect for the staff team and I hope my suggestion is a help.

    Okay, so I don't know if it should be a perma ban, but I vote for a .dat file wipe :D. Think about it, the player then loses their money, their melon sword, the contents of their enderchest, etc. I think it'd be a fantastic punishment that would deter a lot of people.

    I agree that a .dat wipe is a good and would mean that they would probably lose their melon sword/tool if they were banned whilst using it, however, what is to stop people storing money in signs? Upon being unbanned they can simply break the signs a reap the benefits of having used a hack to exploit the economy.

    Well, I should clarify my original post by saying I'm not necessarily advocating a mandatory "perma-ban" for these kinds of offenses. I'm just suggesting a high level of punishment appropriately matching the severity of these crimes, since they can be every bit as damaging as a more traditional "bug" or "exploit".

    I'm curious, do you have any examples (links not names please) of this happening? I'd like to investigate this myself.
