Minecraft Name: Jikkzz (joint suggestion with Lady_Frost) Suggestion: I'd like to suggest a new chat channel named PVP, which all SG broadcasts will go in to take away some of the global chat clutter. This chat channel can also be a place for people to ask for "/sg vote", ask others to join the SG arena they are in, and communicate with other players participating in PVP, further reducing global chat spam/clutter. Reason: There is too much clutter in global chat at times, and this will help reduce the spam and make it easier for Mods to do their job. Other Information: Lady_Frost came up with this idea while we were trying to moderate chat without many other mods active at the time and we agreed this would be a great suggestion to reduce the general global chat spam.
Would you want it to place people in that channel automatically when they join or would they have to join it?
I would think it would be like global, where its automatic but once you have achieved the rank of resident+ you should have the option to leave it.

Only colors off the top of my head that are not used in chats right now are dark blue and dark green... Both of which are hard to read. Although, if the channel is not going to allow for chatting (which it shouldn't, considering we already have SG and PVP channels), it may not matter. As for the channel, I'm not sure it will change much. Even people looking to PVP/SG will avoid a spammy channel, so it will really end up being a place where people spam and no one actually listens to the "ads" -- or a very dead place because people realize no one cares to be in the channel. I somewhat see it like Trade channel... Although I want to trade for things all the time, I often ignore the channel because it's too spammy (all that spam is partially because no one is in the channel in the first place, so people keep advertising hoping for a bite). I'd suggest making a rule on SG advertising in Global. One or two minutes between advertisement for a specific SG (i.e, "Join sg 1" or "/sg vote on sg!). That way someone can advertise for SG 1, and they and everyone else should wait a minute or so. This would cut down on spam, but also allow advertising for other SGs, like SG 6. The end result of moderating that time frame between ads would take around the same amount of effort and time it would take for moderating a whole new channel (or maybe less effort and time, even).
I don't think users would switch to pvp chat to say that and it wouldn't be as effective. I think they should either ask there friends through private pm or advertise it in trade chat.
+1 It's been a long day so forgive the rest of this post. [sarcasm] I always do the /sg vote, but nothing seems to happen. Maybe it's because I'm not in a SG game. I've always wondered why they want EVERYONE to /vote, even people not in their game. You would think there would be a channel just for them. **reads above posts*** Oh wait, nvm. [/sarcasm]
Usually the point of asking people to /sg vote is to make sure everyone in the arena knows to do it, not just their friends. Also, SG has nothing to do with Trade so it wouldn't be appropriate to say it there. The best way right now, which a lot of people already do, is tell people in Local to SG vote. But this doesn't cover when everyone spams "Join SG 2!!!" If we had a dedicated channel for this, then everything PVP/SG related could go there instead of spread out over multiple channels and broadcast globally so everyone has to see it. And finally, if people chose to use any other channel instead of the proper "pvp" or "sg" channel, the staff could enforce it just like we do for things that are said in Global but should be in Trade.
I'm for this as a moderator blue color, however, I suggest limiting everyone to just the PvP chat and local, local because asking people to vote would be harder in a general chat.
