[Suggestion] Get rid of the Auction Plugin and go Back to the Old Way

I like the plugin style auction better. Less spam and more efficiency.

The reason it's not being used as much as you'd like, though, is because a lot of people leave the channel. People will still do that with a chat.

 

I have loved the old auction system with it's bright text, but you must agree that this is preventing scams and user complaints. I say we reform the auction channel into something new. -1 to this suggestion.

 

I got a mixed opinion on this..
-I personally dislike this auction channel due to the fact you cannot auction towns etc and most people leave the channel.
-However it has prevented many scams which is good

I feel that stuff like this is better suited for an auction in the for sale forum. It'll be there longer than just a quick in-game auction.

 

I love the plug in and how it works - I do not understand why it does not default to seeing it (the spammy trv channel defaults on). I would love to have these two defaults switched.
I only think of auctions just when someone mentions it in the trade channel.
As for towns and other items - these items should be sold or auctioned in the forums or mention it in trade and then take it local. I do not know why this seems so hard.

Keep the plugin, allow player run auctions in /ch auc though for towns and other non auction able items. The auction channel is useless, and you should be able to auction towns/services

 

Towns should never allowed to be auctioned in chat, it only causes issues. The fast paced nature makes it very easy for the auctioneer to twist the town into seeming more desireable than it is, and players can't adequately check out the town before the auction ends. Sure, people have the choice not to buy, but those who do and are unsatisfied may also try and play on technicalities to get out of a deal (eg an advertised 200x200 town actually being 201x201). I'd much prefer the problem nipped at the bud and these auctions not be allowed in game.

It's not hard to auction something on the forums.

 

the auction channel has been the biggest cesspool of disasters and scams on ECC. You have no idea how tiring it was for a staffmember to just pay attention to auction chat during on-peak.

 

N6 said it all so perfectly. No matter what would ever happen to the auction plug in, I hope that towns and other items like that are never sold in auction again.
I actually enjoy not seeing the troll auctions we used to have.

 

I understand that, that's why we got a complaints section, and mods to deal with it. Yes, sometimes there are issues, that's why mods can stop the auction if it's not clear. If there's a way to do a semi auto auction for items like this such as /auc start (town name) (size) (original owner) (starting price) (bid increasments)

 

You mean the 1 dirt for 10000 dollar auctions that still happen but instead of before, last a full minute?

 

I will admit I am rarely in auction since it defaults off, however, these auctions are against the rules and if you are seeing these, they should be reported. I have seen many players warned and then banned for this type of activity.

Impossible scamming with new plugin (Not paying, not receiving items, etc.)

Lots of people were scammed in auction channel, not to mention the false items being auctioned (Players, mystery items, mystery towns, etc.)

 

Preventing the issues from happening in the first place is far far better option than trying to resolve them after the fact or during the situation.
There also isn't a way to set up automated town auctions through the plugin, it just isn't possible or worth adding.

Why not simply allow auctions both plugin and by channel?
Since they are bundled as the same channel, in order to solve the auction spam from the channel that could occur they should be made different channels.
/ch auction, as it has always been, and for the plugin it should be different so that you can do plugin auctions, but not auctions in /ch auc, and vice versa.
