Minecraft Name: Volvith. Suggestion: Bring back ECD-bought features. Reason: Okay, so recently the feature system changed to pay to get only. Now, i understand that this server needs boatloads of $$$ to run, and i think that this system was primarily implemented to support the server. (correct me if i'm wrong, because god knows i tend to be... quite often so.) Now, recently i've seen a LOT of new people freak out, and just leave the server because of this. "Oh, there are features like flying? Cool, how do i get them?" "Ah come on, another pay to win server? **** this, i'm out." That's a potential long term supporter gone. Now, i don't know how this should be re-implemented, but i'd like to suggest that you would become able to get features with ECD again. Be it so that you can only get features when you have a certain support tag, or that you have to get patron first, or whatever. But to me, and not just to me, it feels kind of too much like a 'rich kid wrecks you' principal. It's not about people having the option to choose whether they buy feats with RL$'s or not. It's about people having the illusion of being able to work for it, and giving up half way to pay for them. (Having said that, a lot of people would pay if the store prices were reduced just a bit, to the point where you'd actually make more profit.) Other Information: A user freaked out just now and started cursing and shouting at people for the reason stated above, and got banned. Pay to win. And honestly, if something like this can trigger a reaction like that, even if it's pretty much just the user not being able to have a decent conversation, than something must be wrong, and we won't find out what unless we experiment with it...
There was both for a small time but there was problems with both of them working in tandem. So i think thats why ECD Features were removed.
This, even though I wouldn't mind seeing both methods implemented if it's possible for them to work seamlessly. +1
If there is any kind of way for admins to add features, as long as the recipient has the money for it, would applications be a solution for the ECD side of it?... EDIT: Drop the admin thing, would applications be possible, in any kind of way?
I think I understand why /buyfeature didn't work - which is the same reason why applications won't work, either. If you buy a feature via Buycraft, you can't manually assign it ingame because the permission node already exists for that user. Easy to check. When assigning permission nodes via a SA or a command, however, there is a problem: Buycraft appears to decide a purchases availability by checking previous purchases, not the actual permission. Buycraft doesn't break a SA or /buyfeature adding it in any way... but manually adding it via /buyfeature or an SA breaks Buycraft... you can essentially still buy the feature although you shouldn't be able to.
So, if i understand it correctly, if you'd buy a feature with ECD first, it would still be available in buycraft. Kind of annoying that you can't register a user in the purchase registry. Then again, if we were to make it ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that this is a thing, both in the store and when buying features in game, would it be possible then? Because the only real problem i see is double purchase, which can be avoided. Now, if the problem was that you woulnd't be able to buy next level features, eg extra, extra +, extra ++, when you bought the previous rank in game, then it would be a real problem, as you wouldn't be able to buy with buycraft. To put it bluntly, the reason why ECD buy was removed was to protect people against their own stupidity? :3
According to my knowledge, this is the case. Buy the basic level (or an upgrade that isn't the highest tier) in ECD and you wouldn't be able to use USD for any higher tier. (Again, I might be mistaken, this is the status of my knowledge about this.)
And there is no way to detach the need for the previous tier in the store, while restricting the use of higher tier feats gameside, if the previous tier is not present? ... Don't get me wrong, buycraft is a great service, but i'm kind of hoping there's a working alternative or some kind of fix for this, which i highly doubt. If there was some kind of workaround or anything like that, it would be great. Then again, i know jack shit about the specifics of buycraft so yeah... :| Also, crazy idea. Would it be possible to work outside of buycraft? If that were the case, applications would work, while ECD would still be an option. Although it would A be more work for you guys, B it's probably not possible... -_- Oh well. We'll see.
I don't know how ECC's permission nodes are set up, but... omitting requirements could lead to situations like "I have Fly+, so I can fly in the Mining world and Nether. I can't fly in Rising or Legacy, though". Weeeell... having andrew process every single payment manually and directly adding the permissions (which appears to have been done before Buycraft was added). See above - ServerAdmins could theoretically add the permissions after applications have been filed, but andrew would still need to verify all USD transactions manually. I really doubt something like this would happen. Thinking about such problems is definitely not a good idea while I'm barely awake at 1AM... .-.
They can't delete this thread once its made, they will lock it upon your request since this wont be happening as nicit said.
Future reference these players should be made aware of the fact that with a reasonable amount of ECD they are capable of paying another player to buy them feats. Because I know I don't have the money to get some of these feats with out the help of another player purchasing them for me.
Features should cost USD, because the server needs a lot of money to stay running. If the user wants to buy features but doesn't want to spend USD, you can explain to them how you can get someone to buy it for you in exchange for ECD. -1
