I've been on this server almost 4 months now, and have noticed something that Really needs to be looked into. I was a builder for less than 2 days then got resident. I was a resident for 4 days, then got Mayor and started my own town. When i got this town approved, the first building i made was the "Builder Apartments" I built it because i wanted to help people who were new to the server, gain a good group of people who could (if they wanted to) help with the town, as well as do jobs which i payed MORE than others payed people, because i knew how to make money quickly, so i offered the apartments for free, fully furnished, and then eventually they could either buy a plot in my town, or move out if they wanted to live elsewhere, basically a free place to stay while they learned the server's ways. After a couple months as mayor, is tarted working toward getting President, and making my town Even Bigger!, to give more jobs, more homes, more opportunity, But in all the time I've helped others on this server, I've never asked for help myself, i allowed people to do things for me, but out of kindness, paid or made it even out of my own guilt and knowing peoples time is worth something. The One thing that has been irritating me lately, especially after getting president, is that there is still a sense of "pointlessness" to feeling good about my server rank as president, Below i will explain: Firstly: Buying 2 Erep for 500: number one, my rank is President, not builder, two, im paying More than most people are willing to pay for an Erep Service. Here is how I'm treated: The player refuses to give my item back, because if they aren't paid within 2 seconds of arriving, i must be scamming them right? Stop Being Noobs Toward high Rank Players! its one thing if i was trying to get Free repairs done, i could understand if i had a huge history of being a scam artist, which I choose not to be, Respect people who haven't done you wrong. Secondly: Lately I've come across a few mods, and supermods who I've never even heard of or seen on the server before (maybe I'm under a rock?) or they don't talk much. But when this handful of people who were given permission to "Moderate" the server's content Treat people like crap, it Seriously tick's me off, im 23 years old, I have 4 year old and a 2 year old, I understand that Moderators have no way of knowing this but here's my point of view: Chat channel blah blah talking about TurkeyJerky, so I said, jerkaturkey, No big deal, no issues the only people who would understand this joke would be anyone who is mature minded, Considering I DID NOT SAY "choke a chicken" yet a moderator told me to keep it pg13. MY POINT OF THIS: Some moderators are fine with lightly poking the bear, and if i said poking the bear in-front of unmentioned mod, i would have probably got kicked for talking inappropriately because he took it wrong. The people who are supposed to be "keeping the peace" and making sure people aren't swearing in chat, every once and awhile its like you get that 1 teacher who hates pink erasers or something stupid that no-other teacher has an issue with. Moderators need to get on the same page, not Jump on some one who's most likely twice their age because they misunderstood something, or tried to make a bigger deal out of something that wasn't. Tired of feeling like I'm not allowed to talk in a public chat channel because i might tick off some 12 yr old that was appointed the job of Police Officer, Keep the peace, don't treat people like murderers just because they didn't use a crosswalk, Calm the hell down. And yes, according to ESRB Damn, Hell, and a few other words ARE pg13, lock me up I'm guilty for talking. And yes, i feel this belongs in Suggestion thread for this reason: When you appoint people to monitor chat, don't hand the village idiot a Sheriff badge, or at-least Mentor them for a few minutes on how to handle situations. instead of moderators sounding like ticked off kids towards people twice their age.
It doesn't seem like you are at all calm. When you're worked up like this, it impairs your ability to recognize when other people should "calm down". Sadly, I am speaking from personal experience. I truly hope I have learned to be more tolerant and friendly toward others, even when there are disagreements and conflicts.
I understand what your coming from, but you shouldn't cause problems with even the most harsh of mods, if you stay on the right track. There's a lot of people on this server that are...well, rambunctious. They sway back on forth on edge of being okay, and cracking a dirty joke every now and then. They swear here and there. Nothing heavy enough to make staff upset, yet just enough to bristle some peoples feathers and cause a mod to poke you about it. As I currently understand it through some leaked classified files that revanrose6 spilled the beans about, staff are current doing quite a few changes in quite a few areas. Perhaps things will clear up a bit more.
Jason, wouldn't it be better to wait until staff is ready to discuss whatever it is they are working on? Until then it's just vague rumors.
Staff deal with a few hundred players everyday. It would be quite hard to demand recognition from them.. If you want to be recognized, post around more, chat more, and interact with players more.
He's not complaining that staff don't recognize him, it's the other way around. He's unhappy with all these people hiding under a rock suddenly get mod. But in further reply to your post ninja, president isn't a high rank anymore. There are tons of people with president, and to be honest, I don't trust presidents. A lot of them are untrustworthy, snobby, and some of them scam builders here and there when they think they can get away it, or don't give money payed to them on accident back. These erepair people might never trust you, the best you can do is get tycoon or ecoleader.
I very much value and enjoy the EcoCityCraft community, and one of the great things it has to offer is the large number of fine people that participate in it. Nobody's perfect, but in my view there is much more good here than bad. <3 ECC
Wow 10 replies, Jason understands what I'm getting at as well as most the people who replied; my point to this thread is not to cause problems or else I would have named the people who drove me to write this, I Highly enjoy this server and have been loyal to it since i was a Builder here. if anyone feels that this is an Outburst, then they need to read the examples again in the beginning of the thread. ALL the supermods and mods here that i have had the pleasure of conversing with ARE very helpful as I mentioned, but its these random people who pop out of the woodwork and get on my case and others, One set of people allows things to slide and keep it friendly, Another group of enforcers step in and its Lock-down, People on a team need to all be on the same page and know their areas, not trample over others while stumbling over their own ban hammers. As my experience moderating, Golden rule is you NEVER publicly confront a player/person, you may only conduct matters to the player in private, you don't simple try to show your power by basically enforcing authority in front of a crowd that way its kept Private, between the player and the mod. I Completely understand people have bad days, but when you accept a position as moderator/crowd control, you are expected to act professionally. 3 moderators and 2 are not having an issue then 1 steps in and says "burn the witch" Its not right. hope "Areas" are implemented into staff guidelines, who wants to be chewed out in front of others? no one. And if there is an issue, its best that a member of staff confronts them Privately, not Publicly about it, and find "IF" there really is a borderline violation. if there are multiple mods on handling a specific task, unless they communicate and know whats going on, situations like this will keep happening, and for a Server This Epic, I hate to see the little things like this go on, Its a regular issue and needs to be addressed. I love that the moderators are allowed to talk with the players in chat channels, where I'm coming from we are not allowed to use the normal players chat. only via pm/whisper if there is a possible issue. gets dull lol. It seems like everyone who's replied gets the gist of my point, And I Greatly appreciate the feedback provided =)
Like I said earlier, they don't usually come at you, unless they have reason to. I know some of them may seem harsh from your standpoint (mods never bother me ) but if one of them really get's on your back, or tells you stop something that you really honestly think shouldn't be stopped/warned for, you can file a staff complaint with Andrew or Sky. I can understand the need for everyone to be on the same page, and I'm assuming this is part of the changes they are making recently. As I recall Revan (or some other staff member) mentioned how they were doing a lot of changes, and a list of swear words might be one of them. Although, that golden rule sounds like gold leaf instead of solid bars to me Instead of typing this out all over again, let me list you two quotes that might apply to the public/private warning issue. And then here, a reply kuke made to my post that I think really applies and really stated the issue further then I did.
Moderators are people too, who use their discretion to see what is the most appropriate action for the situation based on their sense of reason. Same thing goes with interactions with players who have titles. Realistically though, I don't want Moderators to be biased towards people of rank; everybody is a player in the end. No need to discuss warning people publicly, as Kuke did a good job, with it already. Typing is hard. It's been said enough times already, but I do have the uncontrollable urge to say it again: Rank brings no recognition, respect does. Post in the forums, express your opinions, and get involved with everyone and everything. Kudos if you become active on TeamSpeak, as you will loose all dignity become more involved with the other TSies. As a final note: there are very few circumstances where people honestly care about your age on the internet. You exist as a username, a picture, your language, and your actions. Sure, you can share facebook pages and what not; but honestly I would never be interested in reading that stuff. The people who get chosen for Moderator are the ones who are deemed the most capable from what they have shown, not what they are. TL;DR: Do awesome things to be awesome, and moderators will still moderate fairly.
I've never seen Mods be bias against anyone, I'm unsure where your drawing that from. But your right about rank, I've seen Builders be more popular with Ecoleaders. No joke, I'm not lying, it has happened.
Jason1964 Just referencing the OP, and the story of getting warned in it. And somehow I've had people pay for both my pilot and resident; I have yet to actually earn any kind of money on my own. Ops.
Jason1964 ^I meant this stuff^ And yeah, I've spent around a month on the server and have done only 2 mining trips and farmed pumpkins for 10 minutes; managed to receive 40k from people. I like it when money is thrown at me.
