Basically some changes to SG item spawning:
- Means remove
+ Means add
Both Options
- String
- Planks
- Awkward Potions
- Flint
- Iron
+ Fire Charge
Increase uses on flint and steel
Removes mostly useless items. Items used to craft just aren't needed with how common weapons are. And fire charges are fun. Awkward potions aren't relevant with either suggested change regarding potions.
Option 1 (The Potion Option)
+ Blaze Powder
+ Splash Poison Potions
+ Splash Slowness Potions
+ Splash Blindness Potions
+ Instant Health I Potions
Reduce Dragons Breath
Reduce Gunpowder
Allows lingering potions/tipped arrows without spending centuries brewing. Instant Health potions are slow to drink or you need gunpowder to make splashable.
Option 2 (The No-Potion Option)
- Dragons Breath
- Gunpowder
Just removes useless potion items if brewing isn't a usable mechanic.
Isn't meant to be a duplicate of @3point14mp's suggestion but rather offer some more specific changes.

I agree with most of what is being suggested here except the following:
- Awkward Potions (I think you're mistaken about this not being relevant, it's only irrelevant right now since no brewing ingredients exist, but are essential for brewing itself if it comes back)
Add + Sugar to option 1 for speed pots -

Couldn't agree more with removing string, awkward potions, and flint. They have no use. Planks and Iron on the other hand are used quite frequently in crafting iron swords/axes and shields. A huge no to fireballs. The idea sounds cool at first, but in reality there's hardly ever an opportunity where you can use them effectively. Also disagree with increasing flint and steel durability. You know the saying: "If it's not broken, don't fix it."
Don't like option 1 at all. Potions will be the death of SG. Why should we directly add potions to chests? If someone wants an OP potion they should at least have to spend time brewing it. As well, gunpowder shouldn't be in chests at all. Having a splash strength or speed potion gives teams more of an advantage than they already have.
I'm much more leaning towards option 2 since it's closer to vanilla SG, but some kit changes would also have to happen to help with balancing. -

I like the flint and iron, as I can make flint & steel, which is really helpful

We need to keep the planks and ingots.

+1 to the both option.
Might I suggest to add a poll so people can vote for which option -

keep sticks and ingots, becuase diamonds rarely occur and you can craft diamond swords

+1 to fire balls and this suggestion. You're not exactly giving a relevant point why they shouldn't be added - it's up to the user to find the best opportunity to use them.

Um... thanks for quoting me?
My main point, which Nicit has decided to ignore/decline multiple times (the reason why I left it out of this thread) is that we already have enough sh*t in chests, and kits for that matter. If you play on any other SG server you will notice 1 thing they all have in common. Organisation. Check any other server that offers SG. Trust me, you will not find anything as unorganised as ECC's SG, and if you do, you're more than welcome to privately tell me. My point is that ECC's SG is the most unorganised survival games you will see. Period. Don't get me wrong, I love our SG, but there needs to be a point where we put our foot down (like we did with the EXP changes). The additions of useless sh*t needs to stop.-

I've removed it as neither of my suggestions regarding brewing actually require it. Option 1 gives you premade potions and option 2 removes brewing entirely.
They're not that useful. At least 75% of the time I find the tool I'm looking for before I have the chance to craft it. Given that iron ingots spawn in a stack of 1, making an iron sword means finding 3 different item stacks plus a crafting table. There's even more involved to crafting shields and iron axes. If anything, you can somewhat counteract the change by slightly buffing the spawn rate of iron stuff.
It's being hit by this suggestion though, as it's the most viable crafting option with iron ingots, given it only takes 1 ingot and 1 flint to craft and doesn't require a crafting table.
A lot of people like it.
You don't have to spend time brewing /kit grenadier - your argument really doesn't work because we don't need to brew them anyway (except blindness, but really, blindness is fun). Single potions with a higher rarity won't kill SG. Splash speed potions already exist in /kit buffer. Splash strength could be a viable concern except that making it a splash potion greatly reduces the effective time, so it balances out.
That's why I'm suggesting the premade flint and steel get more uses.
To be honest I'm really not sure what "vanilla sg" even means in this context, or how simply adding vanilla items would make it less of a "vanilla sg".
I'm not suggesting that sticks be removed.
We can cut the useless junk out of chests, sure, but why cut something that people like as opposed to say, planks, which can only be used to craft items that are already fairly common? -

Oh, ok. I understand now
The Flint and Steel is actually too op, I don't think it should be craftable... -

The original two SG servers. They have a very simple chest system. And the contents of the chests generally require little crafting or whatever, and it's mostly focused on melee combat. (so no potions or anything.) and they contain sticks and strings to make bows or fishing rods. (though I've seen servers add bows with low durability in chests) No potion stuff, no enchanting stuff, almost no crafting stuff (with the exception of diamond and bows, of course). It's simple and uncluttered.

Okay, thanks. Seems we're a little past that to be honest, although removing items to craft weaker weaponry seems like a step in that direction.
Potions aren't, but neither are kits so, eh, not really much to do there. -

I don't like getting rid of the iron and flint, as I love to use flint and steel. But everything else is good! Both of your options provided sound nice. +1
