So, this xmas im getting a gtx 650 2gb, a i5 @ 3.3ghz and 16gb of kingston ram. Now, any idea how much fps this will get maxed out on Minecraft. There are not too many benchmarks for the gtx 650 so im finding it hard to get info.
Ive ran into problems with Kingston RAM with it not behaving with POST yet BIOS recognized it. Now with the FPS., it highly depends on your performance settings in the video setting area of minecraft. even though that they both carry memory, so as guess... Well over 100 FPS. if not a little but lower. also it depends on the processor. since its i5, the game wont be choppy and laggy. Even though i dont have the graphics card, it will be amazing and crisp display (if not, then they handeled it wrong). so you will get a high FPS.
I suggest an i7 over an i5, seeing as minecraft is very CPU intensive, and not so much GPU (graphics card) intensive.
Yea definatly get an i7, you will regret it in the future, it allows for greater multitasking however it cannot be overclocked as high as an i5 can
I have an ASUS N56VZ. It has 8GB of RAM, nVidia GT 650 (2GB Dedicated), and an intel i7. I can easily hit 300 FPS.
My i7 adjusts itself accordingly to what I'm doing. Surfing the web and typing papers is like 1.15 GHz. Minecraft is about 2.4 GHz when using VSync (optifine-60 FPS; very stable and won't "over-use" CPU processing). It can overclock itself to 3.4 GHz on Max FPS. Well worth the investment.
Yup I agree its a good investment, definatly future proof for the years to come, The ivy bridge series offers a lot more performance over the sandy bridge. Remember Ivy rules
I have 8GB in a 2010 Mac, and since updating from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, I can run at 100+ all the time (ever heard of a Windows update that actually made your PC faster? Did you say no? I thought so! Mac = better xD). But I was informed that my display will only do 60 FPS, so I need to re-install Optifine and limit my FPS.
Over 6 GB of RAM and you should be fine. It will only use as much as you allocate to it. You NEED the i7 as Minecraft is CPU intensive and only runs on 1 core.
i7 is a massive help , I have i7 Extreme which is just a bit overkill but i do have it at 3.8ghz I get around 2500- 2700 fps at spawn. I do completely agree about the need for i7 more than i5
