Purpose Find most effective way to farm pumpkins considering both the difficulty and profitability of each method used. Process Used stopwatch to record time taken clearing a strip of pumpkins at "/warp farm". One strip is ~2,000 blocks (2x1000). An efficiency 5, unbreaking 3 axe was used. Recorded total amount of pumpkins farmed and profit earned in elapsed time. Pumpkins were sold at "/warp highgarden". Derived the hourly profit by using: Code: 3600 / [time elapsed] * [profit] *Actual hourly profits will be less. The time taken to sold the items was not accounted for. I have just included them to use as loose reference. Methods Methods vary in: Speed used (/speed) Sprinting or walking Clearing one row or two rows at a time (straight-line or zig-zag) Evaluation === One Row at a Time === Spoiler: Speed: 1 | Rows: 1 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 1 Rows: 1 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy Time: 06:00 # Pumpkins: 2,000 Money: $899.98 Hourly: $8,999 Notes: Boring, slow. Wouldn't do unless you don't have /speed and you want to Netflix and MC chill. Spoiler: Speed: 2 | Rows: 1 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 2 Rows: 1 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy Time: 06:00 # Pumpkins: 2,000 Money: $899.98 Hourly: $10,441 Notes: Still boring and slow. Recommend using a higher speed. Spoiler: Speed: 5 | Rows: 1 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 5 Rows: 1 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy Time: 03:37 # Pumpkins: 1,998 Money: $899.10 Hourly: $14,916 Notes: Good, but can still up the speed without losing too many pumpkins. Spoiler: Speed: 6 | Rows: 1 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 6 Rows: 1 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy Time: 03:18 # Pumpkins: 1,978 Money: $890.10 Hourly: $16,183 Notes: Great method. Going fast, while leaving minimal pumpkins behind. Spoiler: Speed: 7 | Rows: 1 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 7 Rows: 1 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy Time: 03:02 # Pumpkins: 1,840 Money: $828 Hourly: $16,378 Notes: Great method. Going as fast as possible, while not leaving too many pumpkins behind. My favorite least-effort method. Spoiler: Speed: 8 | Rows: 1 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 8 Rows: 1 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy Time: 02:47 # Pumpkins: 1,416 Money: $637.19 Hourly: $13,735 Notes: Too fast, leaving too many pumpkins behind. Recommend decreasing speed. === Two Rows at a Time === Spoiler: Speed: 1 | Rows: 2 | Sprint: No Speed: 1 Rows: 2 Sprint: No Difficulty: Easy Time: 03:55 # Pumpkins: 1,927 Money: Hourly: $13,284 Notes: It's easier, but I definitely recommend sprinting or upping the speed. Spoiler: Speed: 1 | Rows: 2 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 1 Rows: 2 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Easy - Intermediate Time: 03:04 # Pumpkins: 1,988 Money: $894.60 Hourly: $17,503 Notes: Great money, very efficient method. Takes more concentration than straight-lining, but the extra effort pays off. Spoiler: Speed: 2 | Rows: 2 | Sprint: No Speed: 2 Rows: 2 Sprint: No Difficulty: Easy Time: 03:21 # Pumpkins: 1,962 Money: $882.90 Hourly: $15,813 Notes: A bit slower than sprinting at default speed, but is a bit easier to do. Spoiler: Speed: 2 | Rows: 2 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 2 Rows: 2 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Intermediate - Hard Time: 02:39 # Pumpkins: 1,947 Money: $876.14 Hourly: $19,837 Notes: Effort-intensive, but great money. For the dedicated pumpkin farmers. Spoiler: Speed: 3 | Rows: 2 | Sprint: No Speed: 3 Rows: 2 Sprint: No Difficulty: Intermediate Time: 02:57 # Pumpkins: 1,930 Money: $868.50 Hourly: $17,664 Notes: Nearly equivalent to sprinting at default speed. Seems only slightly faster. Spoiler: Speed: 3 | Rows: 2 | Sprint: Yes Speed: 3 Rows: 2 Sprint: Yes Difficulty: Hard Time: 02:24 # Pumpkins: 1,826 Money: $821.70 Hourly: $20,542.50 Notes: For pumpkin farming enthusiasts. This takes some practice... and intense focus.. The "go hard or go home" method. Summary The way I see it, there are two ways of pumpkin farming: or If doing one row at a time, I recommend speed 6 or 7 and sprinting. If doing two rows at a time, I recommend default speed and sprinting, or upping your game by upping your speed.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to evaluate these different methods, and then sharing the information with all of us!
@Kozz what about the hit em sideways at speed 10 and go back to pick them up? Would that be a contender because of the time it takes to walk back down the row?
Is there any reason you're not using speed 4.5 instead of speed 3 and sprinting, for the double row method? I've also been able to double row at speeds 6 and even 7. I prefer 6 as speed 7 seemed to leave behind pumpkins more often than 6.
When y’all are saying speed. What are your referencing flying or running, if running how do you change running speed.
We'd be referencing running speed. To change the speed for running, just stand on the ground and do /speed. For flying, fly in the air and do the same
ive noticed while doing this method. im doing 2 rows at 5 speed with no loss on pumpkins. with sprinting.
Unless sprinting for some reason has a lesser drop rate, that should equate to a /speed 6.5. I occasionally get loss at even /speed 6, so I might try the sprint method to compare.
While doing this more I did notice minimal loss at atleast 10-15 pumpkin loss per row. Per 1000 pumpkins
then im not sure what was happening last night but im doing it again today and im getting the same as you. all i can guess is that my game was lagging to the point where i was able to pick everything up and minimal drops.
