IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ ALL THORUOUGHLY AND REALIZE THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE VIRUS AND IS NOT ABOUT THE VIRUS. I REMOVED IT. THANK YOU. So maybe 2 weeks ago my computer all of a sudden just turns off and restarts and I turned it back on. It didn't feel hot, but I downloaded a program that was highly suggested. Basically gave me malware. No big deal. Used MBAM. Got rid of it in 2 and a half minutes. Well 2 weeks I'm reading this article for fun and it tells me if I had an unexpected restart it may have been a BSOD. Hope not, but can anyone give some insight? Do not download anything that looks "sketchy", or something you have never heard of or would not need/want. Chances are it's a virus just begging to get into your computer.
When you downloaded it, did you click on a link or a big green button that said, "download here now!" ?
OK OK The point was not about the virus. I got rid of the virus due to my favorite non-entertainment program MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. I also know Steve that the big green button ones are scams and 99% of the time viruses. My point was that I wanted to know if this could be a possible blue screen. It hasn't happened since and had never before. Just checking about it though. @steveshizzle @lolelf123 @kukelekuuk00 @Physicistsmom
It's a blue screen when your screen turns blue and there are errors (or an unhappy face on win 8+) A blue screen means your windows is partially corrupted, your drivers aren't working, or your hardware is failing on you. Since it only started happening after a virus infected you it's safe to say your windows is partially corrupted. Try a recovery boot. If you don't have a recovery disk then you're shit out of luck and you require a re-install.
Just don't download programs that look shady, example: Whenever advertisments say "Download Windows Drivers now!" It's quite similar to real life also.
I am going to edit the original post to say it happened BEFORE the virus and it is not about the virus AT ALL.
Then consult a professional, because it's not something that will be fixed by asking for help from a bunch of strangers on the internet.
