I seem to have develop a curious number of followers... Maybe it was the fact I was dropping 8 chests of stuff which contained but was not limited to 20 something diamonds, over 5-6 stacks of iron and gold, stronghold blocks, nether blocks and items, diamond iron and stone weapons and armor, a green music disk and my lvl 49 Diamond Sword (II Knockback III Loot and IV Sharpness).
