Suggestion: Do not allow double-, triple- quadruple-, and so-on -posting. Reason: It is spammy, creates unneeded notifications (watched threads), we have a post edit button, copy-pasting, etc. As well, it can make Replying (the function/feature; quoting) difficult, and normal replying difficult. Other Info: Majority of all forums - for anything - have a "do not multi-post" rule. It boosts post count, and allowing multi-posting encourages spam. EDIT: Within this new rule, allow double-/triple-posting for bumping threads that have not been posted on in the past 24/48 hours.
does this defeat the purpose of part of the forum gold? also where did this suggestion spring from? I remember you and I had a back and forth in my "Define:" thread and then this suggestion appeared shortly thereafter
So once we bump our thread 3 times, once every 48 hours, we aren't allowed to bump it anymore and just let it die out? Doesn't really sound reasonable.
More likely than not, someone else will have posted by the time you've bumped it three times in a row (remember, this is about multi-posting (posts in a row by the same person)). As well, it could be 24 hours in between, or 48, or even if the thread goes off the page...there are a lot of ways it could work; can even be multiple. It is more than reasonable enough, especially considering there are very few - if any - threads that have the same person bumping in a row more than three times. This does not defeat the flood filter part of Forum Gold's... Forum Gold's purpose is simply to get around the flood filter if you are a fast typer/poster/thread-hopper [consistently]. The flood filter is generally in place to avoid thread creation spam and purposeful multi-posting spam within short durations of time (anything meant to upset users/cause harm and/or drama). Forum Gold doesn't directly tie into multi-posting on the same thread... This suggestion didn't really "spring" from anywhere. I made similar/other suggestions in the past: http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/bump-button.3503/, http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/turn-off-post-count-in-some-forum-sections.14952/, http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/bumping-rule-addition-clarification.60246/, http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/t...members-part-of-the-forums.67019/#post-320874. I've been wanting this rule implemented since early on in ECC's days ... even before it got big, to try and prevent multi-posting early on, rather than later. Most of the times I suggested it was over voice and in-game during the past, but I have brought it up in multiple places on the forums (more than I linked, even) for the past 2+ years. However, your thread and some other people posting repeatedly in the past few days reminded me of it, so I finally just made a thread specifically about it. I was not trying to target you or anyone else.
I guess I'm not clear if you are talking about bumps to keep active or about individually posted posts that should have been posted all at once but instead were posted tediously in a short time frame. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
I've actually seen a For Sale thread where someone has bumped their own thread at least 10 times in a row.
I'm talking about both. I can definitely understand it for Sales threads... Could be something implemented in the rules; "There is more leniency / higher multi-posting allowed in Sales threads." How so? You'd be able to bring it back as much as you want, assuming at least one person posts on it (breaks the multi-post chain), or it's been a decent amount of time since your last post (couple of days).
for me it has n0thing to do with post count, i just want my idea out there ASAP and then when it is, i have another and i dont want to have to edit because that thought it already a self contained entity. but if it meant i had to edit instead of multipost i would still support this idea. but the flipside is I would like to be able to nominate posts to be st
I agree, I sometimes see people post something, then post something right after that, and then post yet another sentence, when all three could easily work in just one post. Not sure why this hasn't ever been passed
bump and I will endeavor to not be a guilty party in the type of posting referred to in this thread. i can see how annoying it can be...
