Me and my friends were playing in the mining world almost all of yesterday, and really the only way we died is when we turned left at spawn over to the cobble hill. Which seems to basically be the battle ground of the map. If you avoid this area you're most likely going to be fine. And if your running around, sneak people won't be able to find you as easily.
To say what has been mentioned 1000 times already.. straight, right, behind to mine.. left for death!
I have been on the surface and on top of trees and i have never seen anybody (except when im at spawn looking to the left). I've done quite alot of mining and sapling collecting and havn't seen a name tag. The only evidence I have seen is the occasional hide out, torch or mine. I agree, I HATE PvP but this is not ordinary world. This is a custom made map that has alot more ores then the main world. Plus this is the only map that is in a jungle biome. You can easlily make a bunch of cash if you try. To feel more secure I always look around while holding my diamond sword. Factions aren't always bad. They can give some people friends, which are good in a world where everyone is against you.
I think that if there is a way, Player Name tags should be disabled in the miningworld. since it is a "war" world you should not have the ease of locating someone to bully them by looking for name tags. its a jungle and you should have to find your prey.
i like your idea tactica1, and I FOUND A CREEPER!!! who killed me a few seconds later. i also found a chicken.
