So on top of that bitcoin thing, I also ran into this website http://listen.hatnote.com/ It makes noise every time an article is added to or removed from, and every time a new user joins. There's stuff at the bottom, you can read about it, it's really cool.
Used to use something like this for moderating purposes on custom MediaWikis; makes things so much more fun. Mind that the updates were much less frequent.
