So I've seen many posts with these questions: is the Nether worth it? Is it dangerous? What about PVP in the Nether? I can't find quartz! Etc. So I decided to help a little bit. Even though this might prejudice my production from Nether I think it is good to share it. I'll also try to keep it short. **I already posted something very similar in another thread, I thought it would be more visible if I just did a new one** So, to apply and get Nether access you have to pay 20,000. What can you get in the Nether? Quartz (this is your gold mine in Nether) Exp (find a Blaze spawner and you are gold. Find a double blaze spawner and you are King Midas) Loot (zombie pitman can give you gold nugget usually and some other Gold stuff, blaze rods from blaze and ghost tears from Ghasts. Other creatures from the Nether are disabled if I'm not wrong) What you'll need: Protection 4 diamond armor. Others say fire protection. With port 4 I've never had any issue. I just walk through lava as if it was water. Feather falling IV Good sword is not bad to have in hand (pick your own) Pickaxe: Eff 3 works great. Eff3 = eff 7 in Nether (Correct me if I'm wrong). I use Fortune 3, not silk touch. How do I survive (pvp, burning, etc): Here comes the important part where you actually pay attention =) PVP? I've been in the Nether for quite a bit and I've only seen 2 people. The first on my 1st day in the Nether before I knew all this (died) / the second after I knew all this, he shot me but only playing, not actually serious. So no, PVP is not an issue in the Nether (If you know what to do, and usually not even then unless you are Eugene from Hey Arnold and have a lot of bad luck [but you are optimistic =) ] ). Alright back to business: Once you cross the portal, walk your way out of Spawn (you can't destroy anything there nor it's surroundings as to try to avoid other players from getting out of spawn). Once out of Spawn break some nether racks (get about 2 stacks) then walk a little just to make sure no one just entering the Nether will spot you and start climbing you way up by jumping and placing nether rack below you. Once you reach the ceiling break some nether racks and go in. You want to keep going up until you reach the bedrock on top. Important: Don't keep going straightly vertically, if you do you might get into lava and getting out of there is possible but will be a big mess. Keep it simple and either go diagonally upwards or once you mine straight above you make sure you have a way to escape in case lava starts flowing down towards you. Once you are right below the bedrock start mining your way in a straight line in whatever direction you want. Go far so you can reach a place where, hopefully, nobody has been to. When I'm running and mining my way in this stage and run into lava I just keep running and leave the lava behind me. With prot 4 and food is all good. Keep calm and keep going. Once you think is far enough (remember, Nether is 5,000x5000 so you can only reach 2,500 in your coords) start going down diagonally. If you go down vertically you risk falling into lava or from a huge height (possibly into lava too). So go diagonally until you get to an open space where hopefully you'll see a ton of quartz ore! Remember to sell the nether racks you got while moving around the Nether. *I use fortune 3 because as soon as I get 4 stacks of quartz I turn them into blocks to save space. So, is it worth it? Facts: Quartz usually sell for $8 a block in average. (1 stack = 512) If you made it to a good spot you'll end up with your inventory full of stacks most likely. You'll hardly find a person in the Nether (Although if this post gets popular that might change a little bit, but as of today, Dec 7, you'll most likely find yourself alone wherever you are in the Nether (not saying you'll be the only one there) ) If you don't bring good armor you'll most likely die so invest on it. I've found loot from the people that fell from really high and didn't have feather falling IV I survived a huge fall with feather falling IV. I thought I'd die and wasn't fast enough to type /home. Can't tell exactly how high it was but I reckon it was between 50-70 blocks high since that's about the amount of nether racks that would have taken me to get back up there. OnSceneReporter was there to verify this. Ghasts are pretty rare. I always have my bow just in case though. I like Pepsi over Coke ******I didn't come up with all of this on my own. Most of this, if not all, comes from t0fl who helped my 2nd day in the Nether. He is pretty awesome!****** If you have any questions/doubt or want to know the meaning of life, don't doubt to send me a PM or post here! If you feel I didn't cover something please let me know! If I made any mistake.... I don't care. (Nah, let me know too haha ) This is my first post of this characteristic so please leave some feedback. I know it went a little long. But hey! I'm covering how to survive in a world! Bear Grylls takes a bunch of episodes/seasons to try to do that! **Edit: I know this could/should go in tutorials but I thought it'd be easier to find my target audience in this Discussion Forum.
This is effective only where the caved out open areas have already been mined out by other people. Spelunking for ores in an untouched open area of the Nether is arguably always better than strip mining with an effV. It's been said that quartz ore has roughly equal rarity to Iron Ore, so imagine mining for Iron Ore in a ravine/cave vs. strip mining in a relatively high y level. Every 100, 200 blocks or so (whatever you prefer), mine the floor block in front of you so you can check if any quartz ore is on the floor below you. If you see a few chunks, make your way down (with feather falling!) carefully and reap the profits. i dont like blaze spawners as compared to mob spawners.
Yeah, I don't think I said anything about strip mining but in my opinion is not really worth it. I feel like I waste too much time if i try to find quartz ore that way ( t0fl )
the nether is unsafe because some noob by you could hit a pigman and leave the area and then the zombie will try and kill you and you could fall in lava get killed by op people
But that, hilv, is a pretty hypothetical reason. It isn't guaranteed that this will happen. Nether is really worth it in my opinion. The Nether has quartz which is a beautiful source of block! It made my town prettier and look "richer". I suggest you get access to it because if you don't want to use them then just sell them for $8 per! It is high on demand, so you should probably get the Nether Access! Hope this helped
hilv well, that's why I said that you must have prot 4 armor. I walk into lava all the time (not that I want to though) and I never care about. I can swim in lava as if it was water. And with the same armor, zombie pigmen are among the minor concerns in the Nether. Nether is pretty safe if you know what to do. That's why I made this thread
but port4 is hard to get because you never know what you will get from the encantment table and xp price has gone up it would just cost to much money unless for say some1 selling it for like 4k+ a sharpiv loot 3 fire2 knock back 1 and with featherfalling 3 diamond boots I am tbh worried about lava and pvp the most they should make a setting that make pvp on or disable for you that why miner are safe from pvp if they don't have prot+4. I think that would be one safe way but pvp is for those who want pvp and not miners who want the cash quarts blocks give and some noob in port 4 kills them with an op sword
Well, then the best way to get rid of the PvP factor is to do what I described before. The prot4 is only for you to survive lava and big falls. Which shouldn't happen if you are careful. I suggest you read the whole thing I posted, hilv , and try it out. I can go to the nether without prot4 and still won't worry about PvP
Honestly, PVP isn't a big deal in the nether. I've only been killed once (my fault really for being an idiot) and I've only killed one other person. If you want quartz, you have to take your chances. If you aren't willing to risk it, then stick to the mining world and buy your quartz in the shops.
ECC's nether is hands down the absolute least dangerous nether world I've ever seen, not only are the mobs rare, seeing an enemy player is extremely rare! In all honesty there's no reason whatsoever to fear the nether, u can go in with iron/diamond armor and you'll be fine.
Personally I wish the nether was a lot more challenging, since it is hell, and it's suppose to be a difficult world in minecraft.
When both the mining world and nether were pvp, getting exp was always dangerous. Now few people farm exp in the nether as it is safer in the mining world. The nether is always more populated after resets as quartz is more abundant. If you want to avoid people, either travel far, very far. Or go into the nether 2 weeks or so after a reset.
This is a great guide. I'm not new to the nether (got it about 6 months ago) but I still learnt things from this thread! RailefBear By the way Bear Grylls doesn't even take 1 episode to explain how to survive because he isn't in Man vs Wild anymore. (sorry I just had to prove you wrong )
Thanks for the feedback Nate! (nate80000 ) And he is not?! Wow, I think I'll have to start watching more tv hahaha
I've mined a double chest of quartz blocks in the last few days and not seen a single other person. Admittedly now it is nearing the end of the reset-cycle, so it is probably quieter than just after a reset.
